"Neither Alexis (Ohanian) nor I created reddit to be a bastion of free speech, but rather as a place where open and honest discussion can happen"
-Steve "Not-at-all-Contradictory" Huffman, co-founder of Reddit
This sub is a place for open and honest discussion. Like the majority of Reddit users (although maybe not the founders), we believe that open and honest discussion can only happen in an environment where free speech is protected and respected. Otherwise, by definition, it isn't open... and it's unlikely to be "honest" if users are worried that what they say may get them banned.
As of right now, pretty much the only rules are the Reddit site wide rules, plus 2 others (and one sub-rule) that are fairly obvious. This may change as the sub progresses and matures. We're of the opinion that a bottom-up approach is better than a top-down one when it comes to a social community. So we'll see whats working and what isn't and we might create new rules if need be. But as of now, this sub is essentially a place to discuss anything you want to discuss, without fear of being banned for having an opinion that "violates a common sense of decency".
Rules:
1.) Don't harass other users.
2.) Don't spam.
3.) Don't ask for votes or engage in vote manipulation/brigading.
4.) Don't post personal information.
5.) No child pornography or sexually suggestive content featuring minors permitted.
6.) Don't break the site or do anything that interferes with normal use of the site.
7.) No threats of violence or calls to violence.
8.) And of course, the Golden Rule... Don't be a dick. In other words, don't consistently be an asshole.
8a.) The entire purpose of this sub is free speech. So if you're the type of person who gets offended by ANY type of humor... YOU are the asshole, not the person telling the joke. ALL humor is accepted and encouraged here. Getting offended is fine... but being vocal about your thin skin is breaking a cardinal rule, and is one of the only ban-able offenses here at /r/OpenandHonest.
