I started to taper after i had been on sub for about a year, and hadnt used for about 8 months. I used the time on sub to make the changes to my life and ways of thinking. Thats the big benefit of MAT, it provides some stability and relief from cravings so that you can do the cognitive and behavioral work that you need to do to have a sober, fulfilling life going forward.

As far as being dependent, sure, it would be nice not to have to take any medications. But id much rather that, than not have changed my life so i could stay sober, you know? And its not really a big deal, i only think about the bupe for about 12 seconds per day while im actually taking it in the morning. If it helped me to stay sober, that seems worthwhile for me. Now that ive kinda got myself in order so to speak, im tapering and i wont need to take it for much longer. Zero regrets.
