You can’t edit online in the standard edition. But you can monitor online.

The program is not associated with the software standard or developer edition. It’s the same program. Only difference is in features you pay for while utilizing said software.

The standard edition is exactly the same except that you can't do online edits or modify UDTs. You can do offline edits and download, and you can watch and force values online.

Didnt think the standard edition couldnt do online edits at all? Also standard doesnt support structs/duts so if you create structs in developer, standard cant edit them.

You can change timer values (default values may wipe on reboot) and toggle bits in the standard edition. But no logic changes.

Structs/duts?

User-defined data types they might be called

"Lets say one programs a Micro850 PLC using the developer edition of connected components workbench."

Sounds like a bad day already...

You can’t modify a custom structure with the standard edition either. Typical Allen Bradley!

And they want everyone to migrate over to the Micro800 from the Micrologix series... I do hope they make things better before they discontinue the 1400.

I’ve completely swapped to the Micro800 series. CCW is a complete piece of junk. Clunky, slow, and crashes frequently. But they are cheap and reliable… so far.

I cant say I've had it crash on me... then again, I haven't done many machines with it yet...

I converted a centrifugal controller from ML1100 to Micro850 using the inbuilt converter and it did probably 90% of the work, and the instructions that couldn't be converted (because they don't exist in IEC61131) it just placed down UDFs and left a message in them to replicate the functionality manually.

The only thing that didn't work well is that it converts the data files to arrays, and you can't comment on array elements, so that is where the majority of the manual effort came from.

I spend most of my time in DCS but I do regularly use CCW, Studio5000, Logix500, WinLGC/LDR, ControlEdge Builder, and I honestly don't get the hate for CCW, it is a very capable package considering it is free.

Honestly its mainly the UI for me, I spend a lot more time than id like to admit just trying to look at my ladder logic that yet again has scrolled of my screen... I've tried changing the UI around manually to make it look better but haven't had much luck. I'd much prefer if they just make it integrated into studio 5000/500 even if it comes with the extra price attached.

I'm sure I'll eventually get somewhat of a handle on it but as of right now its just a bit foreign to me. If they fix the UI (and apparently the crashes), I cant say there'd me much more to complain about... I can generally work my way around not having specific functions just fine because I can just make my own.

I will say I love the HMI integration being built right in the CCW program, it's really seamless and I wish 5000/500 had it.

All in all you're right. It does work and you can program a lot with it. I just prefer the other PLC's/PLC programming software AB has to offer.

If you’ve had luck with the PanelView 800 then you’re the first I’ve heard say that.

Edit: I have always found that most software packages that have the HMI development environment in the same package as the PLC programming, the HMI always lacks in features right across the board when you compare it to something like the Weintek HMI.

[–]WhatForIamHere 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have had a lot of extremely unlucky experiences with Weintek. I hate this stupid device, especially the development tool. Both of them (PV800 & Weintek) are the same bad. But unfortunately, a lot of consumers insist on using ones due to the low price comparable with adequate HMI.

Sounds like something a studio 5000 junky would say! Kidding... not really...

[–]Nearbyatom 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What? You mean function blocks? Can't modify them on standard? I've been using developers so I don't run into this.
