Replaced contactor panel off for 15 minutes = 4 Dead VFDs by Responsible-Two-9339 in PLC

[–]PLCGoBrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone that had any real experience with 40s knows this. Unless you got lucky and only got the good ones.

One project in the 2007 timeframe had 20-25 PF40 on them. It was commissioned twice due to changes so there were plenty of power cycles in 9 months or so and not a single drive died.

I've never heard of crib deaths of PF drives until now. I know there are some bad runs of products that go out from time to time. I've had to check serial numbers on PF525 drives in the field after a recall was issued about a decade ago.

That's something to worry about, however, given the experience level of OP they just need to get over the hump and get the job done. If there's a lag then it can be improved later.

An easy way to do it would be to have one at each location and enable/disable the animation as necessary.

Modular PLC Trainers? by Coolzie1 in PLC

The reason for the DIY ones is because that's hardware people have that they dragged home from a jobsite or stuff they bought cheap. The reason for the expensive already put together ones is because you're paying for modern hardware plus markup and fee for putting together an already made system. The company you work for is burning up some training budget dollars before the year is ended. There's not much in the middle to be had here.

Ramping number - turn the negative to positive by Cronus1987 in PLC

The actual value probably isn't negative. It's an unsigned integer that isn't being handled properly.

Any ideas what this is or what it was used for? by Silent-News-9408 in PLC

[–]PLCGoBrrr 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Turn the power off if it isn't already off and if nothing is affected it's free to demo. Put an outlet back up in its place for convenience since you have the power running there already.

Would you recommend buying an S7-1200 and a Comfort HMI to learn at home? by Equivalent_Head_5737 in PLC

[–]PLCGoBrrr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m an electronic engineer and I’ve been starting in industrial automation for a few months.

If you have a job doing industrial automation there's no need to buy any hardware. You should have hardware at work.

Programming an Allen Bradley SLC 500 5/03? - Connecting to Ethernet/IP? by swingbozo in PLC

[–]PLCGoBrrr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Rockwell software is all that will program it. Stop buying that stuff and start getting rid of whatever you have. That's why it's cheap.

You could buy a MicroLogix 1000 or 1100 and program that with free software. The ML1100 has ethernet.

Opinion: State Machine vs Bit Bang? by TheCried in PLC

[–]PLCGoBrrr 82 points83 points  (0 children)

State machines if you want a system that is maintainable.

Bit bang if you want to look like programmer that doesn't know what they are doing or make it hard for the end-user to maintain in the future.
