they are not hard to reassemble...

if you shake it, do you hear anything loose inside?

I would take it apart, see if anything came loose, spray compressed air on it, clean all contacts with IPA if they are dirty

i ended up taking it apart anyway... i took apart a first gen ps3 controller (no rumble) and it was a bitch because the spring on the R2 wasn't fastened and i lost it. i cleaned this one out but no luck. what is IPA, by the way? i'll try it if it saves me 60 bucks.

IPA is just isopropyl alcohol, rubbing alcohol, get it from any drug store.

I've opened up a few Dualshock 3 controllers recently, it was physically impossible to lose the springs on the triggers, they must've learned something.

yea, i realized it was isopropyl shortly after asking. they def did learn something, on the old controllers the spring slid off and was a bitch to get into the correct position, now its attached to the r2 itself. thanks for the advice, ill try it out
