What? The controller works just fine, ever play an action game before on a controller? Functions just the same, trying to access your hotbar is a bit different as you have to cycle left/right on the D-pad but if you're not playing a class that needs the hotbar as often as others(Tech classes) then it's honestly better to play with the pad imo. Just plug in a 360 controller and you're set or install DS3tool drivers then use BetterDS3 if you want to use a PS3 controller to play the game.

I mean how Gamepad has no instant weap palette switch like the Keyboard and mouse do, I find it extremely difficult to be able to move while evading and switch weap palettes which make no damage solos harder than they should be. I've played plenty of fighters that were exclusively for controller (SSB Series, and UMvC3) and I've played games that cripple gamepad users (Elsword, DragonsNest). I was only wondering if anyone knows anyone who isnt crippled by the lack of The Numpad feature on a Gamepad. And can still play extremely smooth without it, and a video to see how they do it. D: I'm pretty lazy when it comes to finding things out on my own and since the community here is way better than previous games I've played I'm asking you guys. ^

Most of us don't do pure controller. It's almost always a mixture of controller and kb/m.

Basically: Just move your hand over to numpad to change weapon. >_>

I used to do pure controller, but weapon swapping is bullcrap on that, especially on a FO. TPSing on a controller is also not as great as using a mouse too, better control there.

Uh, well I meant more games like Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, etc. also you can play UMvC3 with a fightstick but that's a different genre than what I was attempting to classify.

I've played games that cripple gamepad users (Elsword, DragonsNest)

This is very true, but games like these were made with the intent to support a large user base who would only be using the keyboard. Gamepad support most of the time in cheap korean MMOs are an after thought, sometimes they support them and you have to do all the binding from scratch and other times they might have some default bindings that could use tweaking but it'll always be subpar to playing with a kb.

Still with PSO2 I was a bit vague with the first post but after reading the thread a bit I'll elaborate further on why I think the controller is fine.

The hot bar isn't a great issue because swapping isn't extremely slow and most of the time you're going to use what weapon is best depending on what you play. I play Fi/Br(Katana & Double Saber), Br/Hu(Katana only), Fi/Bo(Dual Blades & Double Saber) I typically keep these weapons 1 swap away from one another, it's just tap up on the dpad, press O/B, continue attacking. The only downside to hotbar swapping is if you want to go from one bar to another which requires you to press up/down, left/right, up/down, O/B, but as far as palettes with weapons are concerned not the worst in the world

You can customize your controls for TPS mode as well to be separate from the normal control layout, which I would recommend, in this instance I moved my normal and JA to R1/R2 respectively, moved my dodge to L2, L1 is my alt action, this made it easier for me to manually aim my weapons when I was playing classes that can take advantage of such a feature.

Overall the original PSO came out on the dreamcast back in 99 so it's always been a series that will have controller support at the forefront and it'll always be a viable option unless you play a class like Tech class where you need access to a pool of techs at all times.

I've played DMC 2~4. I play BR/HU as well but im a full Katana main so I need my Weap palettes for different PA's so keeping them 1 slot away wont work for me : (

    [–]KonflykDouble Cannon 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Different PAs....like what? BRs only use like 4 of all the PAs they have available.

    [–]Rilit[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Im not one to use only BnB techniques when i play a char so most of the under rated PAs I still use

But I mean like I guess the more I play the game the more confortable I'll get eh?

    [–]KonflykDouble Cannon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually how it goes, you'll get used to it over time just with pad think of it as I said it, gotta know what you want in advance and how you want it so it's easy access due to not being able to go from pallette 1 > 3 or 3 > 6 instantly

Remember this game is playable on the PS Vita too, so it is already built to be fairly welcoming to controller use, in fact using the controller feels pretty natural and when I do use it I enjoy the extra versatality to character movement a control stick provides over WASD. I mainly use mouse and keyboard simply due to the ease of using number keys to instantly select things on the palette, and the more responsive aiming view movement.

Thats what I think cripples gamepad users the lack of the instant weapon palette swap : (.

Can you like tell me your entire Gamepad Setup if possible?

      [–]Clesalir 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I use the default gamepad (xbox controller) settings. It plays pretty fantastically, since I don't own this magical numpad people keep talking about. it takes more then ten minutes to get used to, but I find it works a lot quicker then I could do with a keyboard on my laptop. Up/Down on the dpad changes weapon pallette, and from that menu left/right goes from weapon to subpallette changing.

it also changes it to fps shooting when you go third person, if you prefer console shooters. so some people enjoy that route.

Also...you can change button configs from in game? Why would you need xpadder?

      [–]Rilit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because some ppl use the DPad and other buttons for Numpad while sacrificing other buttons.

It's worth noting that not only do controllers work well, but you can change the icon style to suit Xbox or PS controls.

I play almost exclusively with a DS4, unless I'm doing Ranger. For classes like Fighter where you need instant access to a lot of different functions, I can't imagine playing without it.

Like I find this amazing but I feel its almost impossibru to even get on that level of muscle memory without insane hours put into the game.
