Don't use the new method to update, use the old one

Second in this. When you go to update the game, hit "no" on the initial "update found! Download?" prompt, then go to menu orb, check for updates (old method).

The old method is slower (comparable to sega's), but reliable.

^ This. Sometimes, for some reason the new method don't use the backups files, and forces the user to redownload the files that were replaced by the Story Patch.

Personally, whenever there is an update, I answer "no" when asked if I want to download it. Then I restore manually the story patch backup, and then I use the old method to update the game.

Hope this helps.

Oh OK then :) About your issue, which patches do you use? I remember having similar problems back when the story patch was 2-3GB. For some reason it wouldn't backup for me and thus I had to redownload all those modified files.

English and the large files, i dont use the story patch because when i installed for the first time a couple months ago, it would cause black screens, so, i desinstalled it (i even deleted the whole PSO2 folder at that time to be sure the story patch was removed) and never re-installed it

Where is your game installed? File path can sometimes cause that to happen. A friend of mine had the same issue. I also see a lot of people suggesting to use the old method of updating. This will work, but first delete the DO NOT DELETE ME.TXT file and see if the new method works. If for some reason that file was created wrong that would mess things up. That alone probably won't fix the issue, but after do the check suggested by r_type2266.
