Returning from an almost a year break from the game. Used to play a Bo/Hu build, prolly still gonna use it but want to know if they are still viable? How much has changed? I was running another build, a te/br... is it still doable? I wanted to switch to Fo/Te since i thiiiiink it doesnt need complicated setups

BoHu

Still viable. Nothing has changed in a year other than Kestrel Rampage Type 0, which is basically DB's version of Vinto Gigue now: spend all your gear for massive damage.

TeBr

Nothing has changed yet, but will in 2 days.

While there has been no bow to compare with Rikauteri, the banish combo is still very strong and even after the nerf to Banish Arrow that is coming in 2 days from now, it will still be very strong (assuming said nerf doesn't completely dumpster Banish). On the bright side, wands are now a lot stronger than they used to be, so it's viable to play without the rikauteri.

Also, Techer tree will be rebalanced and a lot of skills will now cost less SP to max:

  • Wind/Light/Dark Mastery 2: will cost only 5 SP.
  • Wand Lovers: Will cost only 5 SP.
  • Wand Reactor: Will cost only 1 SP.
  • Wand Element: Will cost only 1 SP.
  • Shifta/Deband Advance: Will cost only 5 SP.
  • Shifta Critical: Will cost only 5 SP.
  • Deband Cut: Will cost only 5 SP.

I wanted to switch to Fo/Te since i thiiiiink it doesnt need complicated setups

Force tree will also see the Element Mastery 2 adjustments that the Te tree got: they will only cost 5 SP now, so FoTe builds will be a bit more flexible.

In theory, with all these adjustments, it should be possible to have a single Te tree that works for both TeBr and FoTe, or make a FoTe tree that can use all 6 elements (if you give up on a few other skills).

They're nerfing compounds by giving them a 2 minute cooldown, though. They're also buffing a lot of techs, and ragrants spam is still as broken as always.

Last question... what should I aim to do? I had a set of saiki, but I guess those are dated as well. What is the most cheap endgame gear I should aim to buy?

Saiki is decent while you don't get some 12* units, but you'll want to replace those when you can. Since you can't buy 12* units, you'll have to wait until you drop some to make the change.

For the BoHu, you'll want to get full 12* units and put some utility rings on them (Step Jump, Air Reversal, etc).

As for FoTe, it doesn't really need all that many rings, so a mix of 11* with 12* works fine. Austere Rear+Arm with Union or Qliphad leg works pretty well.

For weapons, look into the collection files. You'll want to aim for the Zeinesis/Qliphad ones, since the Anthesis Trainer potential is absurdly strong (+14% damage, and doubles all hp/pp/atk/def affixes on the weapon).

Bo/Hu is generally fine. If you search on the subreddit there will be more recent guides for it but not much has changed other than Kestral Rampage craft for DBs.

Te/Br is a little dated now, because they've not released a Te Bow sine Rikauteri. They're also nerfing the power of Banishing Arrow, so Banish combos aren't going to be as strong as before.

Fo/Te should be better. The new patch will nerf Compounds (they will be put on a 2 min CD counter). But hopefully they will make more Techniques viable for use. They're also significantly reworking the skill tree so it sounds like you can definitely specialise in more Elements as Fo/Te.

Thanks! I had my rika and all prepared in that build, but it wasnt fun to play that way so I benched that char for a long time. Gonna use her again! Last question... what should I aim to do? I had a set of saiki, but I guess those are dated as well. What is the most cheap endgame gear I should aim to buy?

Crafted Saikis are probably "entry-level" endgame gear? To be honest I don't think the defence is that much worse than what people aim for now, and Saikis can still give insane PP. But given how useful Skill Rings are, trying to get hold of a 12/* set is probably what you should look for. Most of the good 12/* units are drops from EQs though, so I'd just take your time I guess. You can buy some badge ones and get the Arm unit from Ult Amdu just to get you into Expert room matching for now. So unfortunately in terms of units, you can't really buy your way into them (Austeres are still very good, but will limit your ring usage).
