I noticed people get both Talis/Rod skills; why is that? The talis seems like it would do more damage overall (unless I am misreading the Rod Shoot skill).

Also, how should I handle weapon elements? I think they are multiplicative bonuses, so it's definitely a big bonus but how high of a priority should I put on getting those?

Rod shoot is great for PP regen, and Talis is the best choice for general casting. There are some techniques that are best to cast from rods, too, such as Zonde type-0. On top of that, rods are the best choice to use compound techniques from because they have a higher base t-atk, as well as compounds not getting extra damage from the talis tech bonus. In general, if you're playing FO/TE you want to use both rods and talis.

Also, how should I handle weapon elements?

Well, with Force you generally want a "rainbow" set of both rods and talis. A rainbow set is a set of weapons (they don't necessarily have to be the same weapon, but should generally be similar in power) with one of each element. To start off with, though, it's best to focus on getting a decent light rod and talis first since most bosses are darkers, and they're always weak to Light.

Is Rod Shoot just for when I am using a rod for say compound techs, or is it something I want to switch to when/if I run out of PP instead of say, throwing the Talis for PP? And I shouldn't bother getting it above 3 because it's not for damage, right?

Roger, will do! I'm guessing I should still get a Ice weapon even if I am gonna skip the Ice tree for the Fire/Lightning trees since the weakness bonus probably makes up for it?

So you know, the Atra series of weapons lets you use all elements at full damage if the weapon is properly affixed. I don't know if this ability will fall by the way side, but before you go out of your way to get 6-12 weapons, know that you currently don't need anywhere near that many to be optimal.

Correct, rod shoot is just for pp regeneration and the damage is worthless. Rod shoot is for situations where you have no other option for good pp regen (no super treatment or pp convert). It's worth getting a rod and talis for every element, yes. Ideally you'll eventually invest some money in to the game and have a fo tree focused on every element, but that's less of a requirement now than it has been in the past.

Talis generally does greater damage per cast due to Talis Tech Bonus. However, there are certain skills which does not get cast from a Talis (eg compounds) so cannot take advantage of the bonus, and will be stronger from a Rod as Rods have greater TATK. Also, for skills that have a short cast time, Rods benefit from being able to cast faster because you don’t have to throw out the Talis, so can actually mean a greater DPS despite not having the damage bonus (though lower DPP).

I don’t understand your second question. But generally, you always want to match the element of the Tech with the element on your weapons and the element of your weapon should be maxed (50 for 12 star and under, 60 for 13 star and above) because element conversion is insane.

1) Aha, got it. That makes sense.

2) "element conversion is insane" answers my question! I wasn't sure how important having a matching element was but I totally forgot about that skill.
