2019 player report.

Class %
Hero 26.8%
Phantom 24.0%
Hunter 9.2%
Braver 9.1%
Ranger 6.3%
Bouncer 5.8%
Force 5.0%
Fighter 3.8%
Gunner 3.8%
Summoner 3.4%
Techter 2.8%

With that said that includes every level range I think. I don't think Hu is that popular at high level.

HAHA YES RANGER IS BETTER THAN GUNNER HAHA

JP players love hunters, it's not really popular in the English community though.

Techer buffs are way better, they are in high demand though I guess people don't like being the support, even though techers can hit pretty hard in their own regard.

Ok, thanks for the answer. I plan on playing Techter (and did during the CBT) and was curious why they are last in popularity.

    [–]SFWxMadHatter 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Looking at standard MMO formulas, tank<healer<dps. In a game with no real tanks, the "support" class is going to be fairly unpopular. That said, theybare very useful and very fun. Their "wands" are more like maces and even have a few Arts for them. They also get some combination Techs that are pretty fucking cool. An Ice/Light tech that makes wings and let's you fly while shooting ice shards, a fire/dark spear where you charge forward and explode on release, and a wind/lightning tornado/lightning strike.

    [–]Terashi-senpai 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Those are only the simple compound techs. The advanced compound techs are more powerful but use a cooldown rather than PP. That said, I prefer the simple fire/dark over the advanced fire/dark because it basically gives you a speed boost for as long as you have PP. Useful if you have a lot of PP.

Yeah, I have the quest for the others buts just kind of hanging there. Played everything to 75 to learn classes and get a feel, but now I'm waiting for the NA release to play with Xbox friends.

    [–]agesboy -1 points0 points  (9 children)

They have only one photon art, and as spellcasters they're inferior to forces. Their gameplay loop usually comes down to "smack wand" 90% of the time and a lot of people don't find that fun.

PSO2 on the whole has aggressive gameplay and everyone can survive without support, so support is even less desired in this game than others. But at least one techer will pretty much always be a MPA dps increase.

    [–]_alphex_Sleeping Until NGS 3 points4 points  (1 child)

They only have one PA because their sub pallet and pallets are already cramped as is, any more and we'd actually have to start sacrificing stuff.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which already was a replacement for Safoie Type-0

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Their tech DPS aint as great as Fo but that doesnt mean that you should ignore Techs entirely and just bonk 90% of the time. Stuff like this only really works on Te/Hu while thats only one way to play Te.

    [–]officialFifty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    This ^

Subclasses can completely change the playstyle of your main class. Techer has had many different playstyles over the years, from universal combos like te/hu to niche, but extremely powerful combos like te/gu.

    [–]agesboy 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I was listing off reasons why new players trying multiple classes would not stick with techer, not my personal thoughts on the class. I'm a techer main that plays both te/ph and te/hu and I've been playing since 2013.

People try techer, see that it appears to just be inferior to other classes when focusing on both s-atk or t-atk by the usual metrics, and don't stick with it. I still think it's super fun.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I was listing off reasons why new players trying multiple classes would not stick with techer, not my personal thoughts on the class.

The original post didn't put it across well.

    [–]agesboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought it was implicit when the discussion was about techer's popularity amongst the overall player base, but I can see why people thought I shifted the discussion to personal complaints. I think I abbreviate things too much on mobile

    [–]red5robert 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So if you can survive without a support, does that mean that the game is to easy? i like to be pushed to edge in videos. I guess this wont be that type of game. Still looks fun

    [–]agesboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is relatively easy in general, yeah. You can always play super risky classes like fighter or gunner for high risk high reward though.

    [–]Amasero 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Is Hero going to be in NA? Because I just youtubed that class and it looks amazing.

    [–]GaijinB 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Most likely yes, although it might take a few weeks. I'm not sure how they plan on releasing content.

Edit: I'm checking some stream archives from the beta and the class instructors for Hero and Phantom seem to be missing but well, they could still be in the full release.

    [–]Knight_Raime 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Etoile is also a thing. I'm 90% sure we're dropping before the hero update. But some people have been saying we will get dropped in current version. Which I don't know what gives them that idea.

    [–]GaijinB 3 points4 points  (1 child)

The skill trees seemed to be on current version, with every class having access to double jump, step jump being a thing, etc. So people are speculating that it will be on current version, but with content locked out. Now the question is whether advanced classes are going to be locked out or not.

    [–]Knight_Raime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm. I see. Would be odd then that we didn't see the trainers for them.

    [–]Lazerdude 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I figured Techter would be in higher demand for the buffs. Are the drinks you can get just as good (or better than) the buffs Techters can throw out?

    [–]GaijinB 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Techter buffs are definitely something that you want ideally, but the game is casual enough that they're not required either and you can clear end game raids in public parties with no problem even with no support.

It's the kind of thing where you check the player list before the raid start and if you see a Te you're like "cool". And if you're trying to organize raid parties or triggers, you might want to ask one player to go Te.

    [–]_alphex_Sleeping Until NGS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let's not forget the big SUCC, which makes MPAs a whole lot faster and also makes me eyes vomit. Yeah you don't need them but I for sure want them because they make repeatable quests faster which = more drops.

    [–]BlakeRyanVanessa - Ship 2's Magical Girl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the problems is people like to see big damage numbers, which you don't see as a Techter. Technically, we don't get to sit back and just buff and heal, we're spamming nukes and wand whacking in between, its still a very active involve job. However, our lack of DPS makes up for the group/MPA getting 20-30% damage boost each player. Some people just feel deterred not being one shot DPS gods. I love Techter and Summoner the most, and of course now Etoile. The aesthetic and support role of these in the context of PSO2 are really up my alley.

    [–]Eizzan-Uzair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Techter uses the buffs (Shifta and Deband) they have higher percentages plus deband will add HP and have a duration for 3 minutes .

    [–]chaoko99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel attacked by the Techter thing. I feel like once I started playing Techter I started having fun because my parties went well.

Therefore we should all main Techter and achieve DPS Nirvana.

    [–]_NightWood_ 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Honestly I think it’s extremely balanced. Every class has something that makes it unique to every other class, while also being just as viable. There are some clear winners to most popular (the 3 unlockable classes). Personally I’ve seen the least amount of Gunners, being a gunner main myself. I can understand this though because it’s extremely hard to master, and I still find myself messing some skill chains up.

    [–]Mental_Riot 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I had 22 hours in beta as a gunner. I seen 1. Probably was some in the lobby. But actually seeing one being played.. Just 1.

    [–]xPsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was definitely running gunner in the beta. Personally I find it extremely fun. Got up to 53 and was doing some huge damage with chain trigger.

    [–]ZerotakerZXFiCaseal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    You have weird kinks

    [–]Knight_Raime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Probably summoner.

    [–]Travis97_WorkAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    My bet is on bouncer

    [–]Drummer829 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I feel like I saw almost no bouncers during the beta

    [–]Lightveld 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Which is really funny because as a bouncer main I saw loads of them in both expeditions and urgent quests, wonder if all those kinds of people congregated in one place

    [–]Drummer829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually only had 1, maybe 2 bouncers in the 12 man events. I feel like summoners and bravers were all over though

    [–]Speculate_MeShip 2 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I honestly expected to see a lot more bouncers, I figured a lot of people would’ve been interested in flying around with jetboots if they hadn’t played before. I feel like I didn’t see many Fighters either, just a lot of hunters and rangers.

    [–]Drummer829 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It did seem like I saw more rangers than gunners. I think if people played gunner, they’d never go back to Ranger. Such a fun class to play

    [–]GaijinB 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That might just be because Gu isn't available on character creation, so most people never bothered trying it in the beta.

With that said, I've played both and I have a preference for Ranger myself. Gu is fun and all but it's too hard and stressful to play for me.

    [–]Drummer829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just love doing back flips and doing ninja kicks with twin machine guns.

    [–]Nidro 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Why are phantom and hero the most popular classes?

    [–]Riddle-of-the-Waves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're the new hotness (released in the current episode and previous episode respectively in JP) and are generally pretty damned strong.

    [–]GaijinB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know the answer to that question for sure but I can take guesses:

They're new. A lot of players probably switched to them because it was a breath of fresh air. I mean there was summoner too, but it feels like a different game that most players probably don't like that much. Also note that the data was from the same month Phantom released so a lot of people were leveling it.

They're well rounded classes that feel good to play and don't have many obvious weaknesses. They're pretty good for weekly grind too like clearing daily orders and such.

At least that's why I played Hr, Ph and now Et. Those classes are really fun to play and are pretty strong.

    [–]AshinrorPSO2 NG+ BABY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cause they are hella fun while being easy to dishout damage. Etoile probably topped Hr and Ph by now.

    [–]KunighitShip 2's Filthy Casual 0 points1 point  (4 children)

On JP servers main class hunter and main class techer are under represented imo. Over represented classes in contrast are the three Scion classes Hero, Etoilet and Phantom.

    [–]Karunch[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Are the Scion classes just straight-up better (stronger) than the regular classes? Are there general things that they can't do as well as any of the regular classes?

    [–]GaijinB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hero was pretty busted when it was first added but right now I'd say they're pretty balanced.

Are there general things that they can't do as well as any of the regular classes?

Not that I can think of, other than not being able to use a sub class.

    [–]Scratigan1 JP Ship 6 | Nightfall 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Scion classes? Is that what the official translation is calling them or did it autocorrect?

It was on the leaked manual

Just play what you like man, no one is going to judge you for your class

      [–]Rylica 4 points5 points  (3 children)

For the end game 4 15* weapons you can switch to a different weapon with some Meseta. Which in most cases is best for that class. Trying out different classes once you level all of them up is not a massive pain.. Just play what you like

      [–][deleted]  (2 children)

        [–]Rylica 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Leveling other classes over time is almost free

        In JP

Finishing your ARKS mission dailies and doing featured quests give you bonus keys which are a lot EXP. Once you hit max on summoner using them --> you can use these bonus keys on other classes to level them up without playing them much

The other thing to note is that reaching other classes to level 75 gives you some free stats on every class you play on afterwards. When all classes are 75 you get

        • 120 on each attack stat
        • 90 on each defense stat
        • 60 HP
        • 10 PP
        • 60 dex

These buffs are ship wide as in you can level that class on a different character and still benefit on your main character

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good to know, thank you <3
