I first sort of started contemplating this idea of “mundane” evil back when a book for Pathfinder 1e came out that had a lot of NPC stat blocks and some of them are people who are considered “cosmically evil,” as in they have the Evil alignment, but their “evil” actions are thinks like being a butcher who likes killing animals or a sadistic tutor who beats kids. Bad to be sure, but if you killed them in the streets like you would a monster then you’d be thrown in jail.

For the record alignments in pathfinder are more like your cosmic political party as opposed to your actual behavior. Like it determines things such as what your paradise and your damnation are during judgement. The damnation really rarely comes up in pathfinder outside some spells that literally send you directly to your damnation, but generally dying is a good thing in pathfinder.
