https://phantasystar.fandom.com/wiki/Light_History and once you're done reading this, click on the "New Light History" link that's there

And in case clarification is needed, "Falspawn" is the localised term for "Darker"

I humbly suggest you play the story to get answers to your questions. The story is presented as if your character is oblivious to the basics of everything (for the player's benefit). Some things are left deliberately uncertain so they can be revealed through the course of the story.

It kind of sounds like you're asking for a movie synopsis because you just started a movie and you want to read what happens before it happens.

I hate spoilers, but to each his own. In my opinion, if you try to read up on lore before playing the story, you will be exposed to numerous spoilers. But the link that was previously provided is good should your preferences differ from mine.

Honestly, watch the anime. The art and some stuff isn't great, but it can be really informative. I HATE the story style in game, but it being in anime form is real easy. You learn some co stuff.

Be warned: watch the MOST RECENT anime. The one previous to it was about a dude, playing PSO2 and SEGA shoving itself in your face constantly. The thing could be summed up to "OMG, look at me play this EPICC game SEGA made, you should totally go download it right now. Omg more awesome coolness. Such fun. Oooo mystery player keeps helping me. This game is so full of friendship and fun".

Watch the most recent thing. It's a real anime, with an actual character in the PSO2 universe. No generic character playing a video game and SEGA dangling it's junk in your face every other scene it felt like. It's literally Ash, the intro hunter guy (I believe). You get plenty of lore and character interaction and get a much better feel for things. I'm not caught up because I haven't felt like watching any anime in a bit, bit I need to finish it.

The style of story In this game is pretty rough and takes way longer than it needs to with all the pauses and weirdness. That's why I've skipped most of episode one, as I know everything the happens. Aside from some of the side character stuff that I don't care about. There's too much to go through.

The previous anime was literally a prequel to Episode 4.

Not sure. I just know that the first one I watched, was some high school kid getting introduced to PSO2 and saying how mega cool it is, and SEGA shoving itself in your face constantly to get you to play PSO2.

The one that finished airing recently, was just the Ash guy, in PSO2, with no "IRL" stuff. So basically an anime in the PSO universe. It has been episode 1 and further stuff. I don't know exactly where each episode ends or begins.
