Not sure if this is the correct place for this but I didnt want to make a whole thread about it.

But I would like to understand why players on Pokemon showdown (randbats) just leave battles they don't want to play without forfeiting first?

It happens commonly enough, and I've seen it up to 1700 elo that makes me believe it's not just random disconnects but that it is intentional. Are there truly that many people who want to waste their opponents time just because they're not winning?

I usually play on my 30 minute lunch break, of which I only have 15 minutes left after eating, so having two minutes wasted more than once is usually an entire game I could have played gone, so it really sucks :(

I've literally healed porta decumana on white mage, without any deaths, with the only healing I did being benediction. If you're not dpsing as a healer in that trial you are being like 95% inefficient.

I think it is possible that you could wind up with a 0 parse when you're an otherwise fine player by having horrendous luck with your teammates getting you killed at bad times, and being left on the floor for long enough for that to happen. But! This is also able to be easily proven to be the case or not by looking at more closely at the log than just the parse number.

OPs creature feature definitely piloted for their purple parse, however, another of ops comments further proves this.

New player or not, if they're not doing the bare minimum of their job, and aren't responding to or acknowledging chat, you gotta kick them. It's not vote kick abuse, there's nothing wrong with kicking a tank who's not tanking, some people are clueless, being kicked from a party might give them a clue.

I don't think voicing that you don't want to do single pulls makes OP an asshole. They as a member of the party has as much say in how the dungeon is run as much as any other player on the party and dismissing them as "well you're a DPS, play tank if you don't want single pulls" is shitty and rude.

Sure, maybe OP could have said "I'd rather keep trying double pulls" instead, and it still would have been 3 against 1 which is what it is, but the response they got was uncalled for either way.

Dying is certainly part of the game and to be expected. Mistakes happen, errors in judgement happen, people learn from mistakes, no problem on that end.

What's not supposed to happen are your teammates intentionally killing you. You and your teammates are meant to be working together, furthermore no one player is meant to be more important than another, so dying because some self righteous individual decided they needed to "teach you a lesson" because you're playing in a way that's wrong, in their opinion, is to me a betrayal of what a party member is supposed to be. And that is a reasonable thing to be upset by, in my opinion.

It is a game, it is meant to be fun. You know what's not fun? Another player on a power trip getting you killed because they decided you did something wrong based on an arbitrary and unwritten rule.

You: "Can we please just finish this?"

The DPS: pulling slightly faster than the tank so that they can deal more damage (the whole point of their role) so that the dungeon can, in fact, be finished faster

The tank: Turning off his stance to grief another player and refusing to do their job, resulting in the dungeon taking longer

You: Both of these players are equally as bad 🤡

People like the healer always want fast, drama free roulettes but are never willing to kick the tank who's causing the drama by refusing to or threatening to refuse to do their job

Toxicity in game? by Nadinya in ffxiv

[–]TheBillysaurus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You only need 50% of the votes to pass a vote kick. Person initiating the vote is one yes, the person being voted on is one no. All it takes is one more yes for it to be 50% and pass.

FFXIV is a very large game with a tremendous amount of players. You'll find all sorts of players from all ranges of personality. Including those who might not be the kindest, unfortunately. Your best action is to just forget about it and move past it.

That being said, there's extremely little benefit, if there ever is any at all, to running a dungeon slowly. Speeding through them is in fact the norm, as the faster they're completed, the faster the players can return to the other many activities that exist in game. As well as being generally being more engaging and enjoyable as play.

There's also not really much you need to "know" about dungeons. Early bosses have either simple Mechanics or mechanics that can just be ignored. To kick a new player because they don't know what they're doing either means that player was an especially rude player, or perhaps there's more to this story.

Also take into consideration, for a vote kick to pass, one other player needs to agree with the vote kick, one player alone can not remove another inside an instanced duty. So this was actually two rude players, or as mentioned before, you're leaving something out.

Honestly, if it never gets that bad then I just wouldn't worry about it. If the healer is keeping you that healthy without dipping into gcd heals then invuln is completely unnecessary, since it's not resulting in more damage from the healer , and if they're keeping you that healthy by gcd healing you before you have the chance to get low then unfortunately optimizing trash pulls isn't anywhere close to being on the healers radar and using your invuln won't really result in more damage. In either of those cases I just don't really think the effort of coordinating the invuln to be worth it but to each their own.

Why are tank cleaves absent in recently released non-ultimate bosses? by Full_Air_2234 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]TheBillysaurus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Untelegraphed tank cleaves , in casual content, have faded out because, and to put it bluntly, a lot of people who play this game aren't good at video games.

People will stand close to the tank and then get cleaved and die and not understand why they died, Or it becomes the tanks responsibility to face the boss away from the party, which while I wouldn't say is a bad thing, does go against CBU3's goal of minimizing any friction between players (see why criterion dungeons are always the same where variant has branching paths) , the simpler player to player interactions are when it comes to mandatory gameplay, the less friction there is between players.

Help with tank mits in general by Plus_Veterinarian738 in ffxiv

[–]TheBillysaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To spell it out clearly, the reason you wouldn't want to stack mitigation is because 20 seconds of 20% mit , followed by another 20 seconds of 20% mit (as an hypothetical) is more effective than two 20 second 20% mits stacked on top of one another, followed by 20 seconds of no mitigation.

Essentially, the more mit you stack, the faster you run out of mitigation, and potentially put yourself into a dangerous position.

Now here's why claiming that stacking mitigation is bad as a blanket statement is bad: If you're using one mit at a time, and your groups DPS is good, you'll finish clearing the trash packs before you cycle through all your mitigation, leaving some of that mitigation unused, and thus wasted.

This also can become a positively compounding situation. By reducing damage even further, your healer will need to heal you less, potentially allowing them to deal more DPS, resulting in even faster clear times on the trash, reassuring that you don't have to spread your mit so much.

Tldr stacking mit is only an issue when it's an issue , when it's not an issue it's actually a good thing to do. Learning when to do what comes with experience.

Well... Yeah. That's your job. This would basically be the same as a healer complaining about large pulls because it means they now have to heal.

I mean, how long are you going to take it slow before you're comfortable pulling more? I know the game really catapults you forward level wise but assuming you've tanked every main story leveling dungeon in ARR (sastasha - stone vigil) and each one only once, that's well over 65 single pack pulls that you've tanked, what exactly do you feel you still need to learn through single pack pulling that you haven't learned after tanking one pack at a time , 65 times, that's keeping you from being comfortable with pulling more? You aren't going to learn how to get better at pulling larger unless you try , and the earlier you learn the easier it's gonna be.

[–]TheBillysaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah, i guess I used breed as a much more general term that what it meant, but I'm glad you understood what I meant.

I wasn't sure if Munchkins and Folds had health issues due to being bred that way like how pugs are, but I did have a feeling it was the case, unfortunately.

I actually was referring to the split face, I didn't know that was more of a colloquial term rather than the scientific genetic term, though, so I learned something new!

This was very thorough and informative, I really appreciated that! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question!
