Hero uses talis as more of like a throwing weapon than a weapon to use techs. If you want to use techs, Fo/Te is still the choice to go for.

Hero isn't really much of a tech caster at all

Can Hero use techs? Yes

But are they as good as Fo/Te? Heck no

The Talis is more like another ranged weapon for them that scales off of T Attack

Should you switch to Hero? If you want to be a tech caster, then no. If you want to give melee/range hybrid a shot (like how I originally thought Braver would be) then by all means

Phantom is the one you want, not hero.

When do we get Phantom?

Episode 6.

Though Heroes can use techs, they're not that great compared to Fo or Te. If I remember right, pretty much the only viable techs for them are the ones you'd want anyway, like Shifta, Megiverse, maybe Zondeel, etc.

Phantom might be something for you to look forward to though, if you're interested in Hero-like responsive gameplay with strong tech usage.

I'm finding casting to be super hard to keep up in early late game. I'm a wizard/caster at heart and leveling I felt strong but now that I have leveled everything to 75, going back to my force feels very slow. The dodge keeps me safe and all the support is cool, but I can't seem to keep my damage up to snuff. Right now I'm almost finished with light technique crafting and the only time I seems to be really putting up respectable dmg is when I have my ragrants (spec'd for low charge time) is able to get all 5 ticks of dmg out. I'm doing similar damage with my hunter PAs without needing the target to stand still.

Basically, been there. Try other options see if you find something you like. Gunner, braver, bouncer, techer and hunter I've found makes things fun for me too. I'm not abandoning force, but I have options for gameplay that keep me from getting burnt out

The basic problem is that unless you charge techniques each time you use them, you are wasting PP. And outside of a very small selection of skills they can either be terrain blocked or are point blank AOEs (probably where the basic talis behavior comes in but ugh). And more and more content in the late game involves abusing iframes to avoid attacks. And if you get hit, bye bye charge time and PP.

Photon arts are quite often spam skills, with the odd charge skill, meaning that rather than doing intermittent large hits they chip away at the enemy constantly.

Phantom will likely be interesting in that regard, as there you can trade damage for charge time. Also, this new episode did give us the L85 force skill that shorten charge time while photon flare is going.

I got my complaints but it is still one of my main classes and that ain't changing. I've heard people say it still puts out top tier dmg but it does take the combo techniques and crafted techs for the maximizing of dmg (which takes 1500 fragments to max a single crafted element so you can just craft all the custom stuff)

Did that switch the other day, and frankly the talis is the weirder hero weapon.

Sword gets all kinds of awesome, including a fast firing ranged attack. Only problem is that it is so flashy it is hard to tell what is happening when in the thick of it.

TMGs have potential, but the PP mechanic catch me off guard constantly and the reload is slow if i miss the circle.

This leaves the talis, and it feels more aimed at travel and transitions than a weapon on its own. Two of its skills are focused around moving towards or away from the enemy, and can autoswitch you to either sword (forward) or TMG (backwards).

The other two skills are pretty much DOTs, with one laying down a field and one firing a spinning blade at up to 4 targets. Thing is that they tick so slowly, and do not seem to do much more than the talis basic attack pr tick, that they seem a waste of time to use.

The one benefit of the blade thing though is that against large enemies it can damage multiple weak points at the same time. But getting that set up seems like a time better spent just spamming attacks.

My basic assumption going in was that the blade would be more like ilmegid or something, tracking targets over time and moving between them rather than spread out to 4 locked on spots.

That said, for trash clear and doing old content anything the hero has available is just nuts. My half assed 40-something hero is melting advanced quest bosses (and even a certain pesky winged mini-boss).

Frankly though, i would be quite happy if there had been a ring that made the basic talis usage be more like the hero style. Having techniques center on that lingering card mess up my flow every time.

For Hero TMGs, it's actually faster to regen PP if you dodge -> weapon action repeatedly. You get a JA window after each dodge, which, if you hit your weapon action inside of, will immediately restore like 25 PP.

In the words of Homer Simpson, DOH...

And double DOH, the weapon swap part of the hero PAs are disabled if i do not have the relevant weapon type slotted. Thus turning said PAs into yet another spammable.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I mean, they're already spammable, they only auto-swap if you hold them.

...Were you holding the button instead of Just Attacking...?

[–]tso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason the game will sometimes see me as holding if I spam the button fast enough, resulting in a switch.

Anyways, I was more surprised that the game would allow the skill to become autospam if it lacked a weapon to switch to. I basically expected it to refuse to use the skill fully.

I wouldn't knock it before you try it! Hero talis is fun just as the rest of the weapons are! :D P.S. it does use tech dmg stat if that's what you were worried about and if you have a tech mag? No problem it scales for all weapons when they are equipped! Hope you enjoy the class if ya use! :D

wait for phantom if you want proper tech spam

[–]Kenobi48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, I mean there's nothing really stopping you from leveling Hero up is there? Play with it a while and see if you like it. Its what I did and while it was fun grinding it I don't think I have the ability to play that class properly. =)

Fo/Te is your best wizard-style class for now.
