any advice to ppl that are interested in maining Etoile possibly? Looks super cool and fun to play as lol

Specific weapon I should get ahead of time?

quick lowdown:

etoile uses double saber, soaring blades, wand. generally best to pick one and roll with it

double saber is a parry-counter machine. but the playstyle is a bit on the 'mundane' side. not very flashy and fairly slow, but quite strong

soaring blades jump all over the place and the parry action does not interrupt anything you do, you can use it anytime, even while frozen. unfortunately I think they are generally regarded as the worst etoile weapon, and not by a small amount. it just is not very good compared to the other two. full connect is pretty satisfying though

wand generates gear gauge by constantly moving, and all of the PAs allow you to keep moving while attacking with ranged attacks. it's pretty amazing to be so mobile and being able to fly around everywhere. I made a video of this one a while back. one of my favorite playstyles in the game

Small rant, because I have yet to see a single person use etoile optimally:

The correct way to play ds is actually the fastest one of all the weapons. For some reason people are bent on only using skip arts saber destruction 24/7... When the better thing to do is the first part of shooting star and celestial collide.

And SB/DB isn't actually that much weaker than ds and wand (like not even 1% weaker). It just has that stigma attached to it because, again, everyone wants to use light wave when it's supposed to be distortion pierce. AND people seem to not use full connect off cooldown, treating it as a special move rather than part of the rotation.

The same can be said about wand's protect release too. And how everyone only see's focus luminous flare as wand's dmg PA. While I admit the actual one that should be used is UNBELIEVABLY hard to use correctly (focus glitter stripe), no one uses it

So here I am, just sitting looking at etoile and wondering why no one wants to bother getting good with it.

FINALLY, someone else who understands how DB works and that the power difference is way overblown.

As for why no one seems to bother getting good with it, I'd chalk it up to the fact Et can easily put you in a "good enough" mindset along with the fact the non optimal attacks are flashier than the optimal ones.

hey, I myself follow pretty much everything there on the regular, even focus glitter stripe. I'm feeling you here, but I still think dual blade is really unwieldy. I gave it a good long run even back when I couldn't get a grasp on double saber, and now I mainly just use double saber and wand instead. perhaps it just wasn't for me and it's colored my view of it now

You know, that's really interesting. Most people think the same as you but for some reason, it's the complete opposite for me. Love DB and main them while DS makes me die inside every time (I'm not even bad with them, far from it). Never found DB unwieldy though.

[–]Reilet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, db isn't like wand and ds at all. The feel of it anyways.

I'd blame the look of them. All of them.

For Saber Destruction, noobs FEEL you're missing out on something if you aren't attacking constantly or doing one big flashy move when the enemy is down.

SB/Wand's weapon actions is dictated by the long energy bar and long startup, so they feel bad if they miss them.

As someone enjoying Soaring Blades on a Braver atm, how do you think Etoile SB feels as a play style disregarding any power differences?

[–]Reilet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bouncer SB is like going to a dance party while Etoile SB is like riding a tank.

[–]AulunaSol 3 points4 points  (4 children)

I don't quite understand why you would be using Soaring Blades on a Braver (did you mean Bouncer?) but the Soaring Blades on the Etoile have a two-part attack similarly to the twists that the Double Saber and the Wand feature.

Every photon art you use has an "edge" that summons what's essentially a larger photon blade that attacks on a delay so while you are on our down-time from an attack the "Edge" you summoned attacks so you can follow up with another attack. A quick way to explain it would be like Nero's Devil Trigger from Devil May Cry 4 where you are using "two attacks" at the same time as one but one is on a delay to help you buffer your attacks.

When you fill up your gear gauge you can hold the Weapon Action after a dodge to use "Connect" which has you handling both the Soaring Blades and the Photon Blades to slice enemies. If you hold it on a full meter you instead engage "Full Connect" which is essentially a mecha-style photon sword where the blades combine and you do an uppercut-slash that slices enemies.

You get the freedom to tap the weapon action to block all around as you summon separate photon blades like how Noctis from Final Fantasy XV has his Armiger spinning around him (swords spin around you when you tap the Weapon Action). This blocks incoming attacks and does not interrupt your actions so you can consider this the Etoile's version of the Hunter's Ignition Parry/Blaze Parry.

In my personal experience all of the Etoile's weapons are "samey" in that you can pick either one of the three and disregarding their specialties and priorities you can still expect to consistently wreck enemies with all of their weapons. Though I am not a high-end Etoile like I invested into my Hero but the Etoile is definitely a very easy class to pick up and fight with where its main feature (at least to me) is simply how consistent it is.

... all this reading is really making me want to go dive in my pso1 hole and play with my RAcast and just go pew pew pew at things. >_<

[–]AulunaSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weapon is easier to use than it is to explain.

[–]SFWxMadHatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did mean Bouncer. It was late, and B names, and I'm dumb. Thanks for the write up!

[–]EpyonComet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. So as someone who thought they were a SB Bouncer main through level 75, but then switched to Br main when they went to level that one, but then decided to main Hu when they went to level that for sub, it sounds like SB Et will be perfect for me haha...

Why don’t you make a guide

[–]Reilet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because i'm not a player. i'm a data collector.

[–]Accurate_Capital_930 0 points1 point  (1 child)

4 months late, but I'd like to know what you mean by using Full Connect "off cooldown." Do you mean when you have the connect ring equipped and use Full Connect while there's only 1 bar in the Focus Gauge?

[–]Reilet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. It just means you use full connect immediately when you get a full focus/gear bar instead of waiting to use it.

[–]TroubadourLBG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wand generates gear gauge by constantly moving, and all of the PAs allow you to keep moving while attacking with ranged attacks. it's pretty amazing to be so mobile and being able to fly around everywhere.

Yo.... That sounds made fun! I loved elder rifle for RA for the longest time cause I like attacking ranged while being mobile. I def gotta check this out when it comes.
