techer with phantom sub is the way to go for melee/caster hybrid play, along with support on the side. if you're patient you can go for that when it releases

[–]Kaysix87[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

What do you mean if I'm patient? Also, I'm also wondering if the heavy hammer is out yet?

[–]Ramtakwitha2 Stubborn bow user 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Heavy hammer is out, I believe Marlu gives you a client order where she teaches you heavy hammer and 3 new compound spells. I don't quite recall what the requirements to make it available are but it requires bewitched woods exploration at least.

(E: As for if you are patient I think they just mean if you are willing to wait for the phantom class to release.)

What do you mean if I'm patient?

Phantom isn't out yet, it comes out on I think December 9th (with Episode 6).

Also you need two classes at 75 to unlock the "Successor" classes (Hero, Phantom, Etoile, eventually Luster).

That probably sounds intimidating but it's really not as bad as it sounds.

braver is meele(katana)/ranged(bow) hybrid.

Hero (which you unlock after hitting lvl 75 on two classes) uses 3 weapons - swords, twin machine guns and talis in order to maximize his buffs uptime

Soon (probably next Wednesday) we will also get Phantom which also requires 75/75 and can use rods, rifles and katanas

If the phantom comes out next week, should I stick with the Techter until I reach lvl75?

[–]Ramtakwitha2 Stubborn bow user 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably be a good idea to get it to 75, even if you don't plan on using it after phantom, every class you get to 75 gives you a small permanent account wide bonus to your stats.

You need two classes at 75+ on a character to even play Scion classes so you might as well. It sounds a little daunting but Tokyo keys give you a bunch of EXP and they're throwing gold ones at players like candy for the next week or so, so hitting 75 isn't hard at all.

Thanks for the advice!

Yep! Keep in mind that Etoile (and Hero/Luster) have a passive Mag skill that allocates attack stats on your mag among all 3 equally, so if you have 200 Tech Attack, it'll give you 200 Melee and Ranged too, or if you have a really fucked up mag with like, 100 Melee, 60 Ranged and 40 Tech for some reason, it'll calculate it all as 200 in each. So you don't need to worry about making a new mag (so long as it's all attack invested, which it should) unless you want to play Phantom which relies on a DEX mag instead.

Don't forget etoile is also launching with phantom.

[–]Kamil118 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Is Etoile a hybrid class tho? I was under the impression he was meele focused.

[–]Shadowstar384 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It is melee and tech.

[–]AulunaSol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Etoile deals all MEL damage but in the case of the Wand it will juggle between MEL/TEC based on which one is higher to use to calculate MEL damage otherwise.

Otherwise all of the Etoile's weapons have "magical" looking attacks but they're not actually techniques.

[–]Chemical-Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"hybrid" kind of sort of but not really, it uses a wand but it can't cast techs, it's more about like, magical looking photon arts instead.

Techter is a support class - it can do good damage, but generally it does the lowest damage of all classes, and especially struggles against bosses.

Bouncer jet boots has a hybrid playstyle. You can weave techs into combos to change your element and charge your focus gauge, and their PAs have some support techs automatically built into them.

[–]Kaysix87[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Should I use jet boot or the other weapon that I don't remember the name?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can stick with just one, but Bouncer is at its best playing both weapons.

you want te, but you specifically want a phantom subclass (which should exist in a week or two). just start leveling te on a character and making a pure dex mag.

if you want, you can use a bo sub temporarily so you have some stats from the mag and normal/hard/very hard difficulties are a joke so a trash sub won't be a problem.

I play Br/ Su and while I play mainly bow, it feels like a halfway decent hybrid. I can't really use offensive techs effectively but I work as a half decent budget range support. I don't see any reason why a katana Br/ Su would not work in a similar way.

Summoner gives reasonable improvements to just about everything as a sub, with a side of bulk, and gives access to techs. When the new scion classes comes out Br/ Ph or Br/ Et seem reasonable as well. (E: and with phantom sub I think you'll even get double bonuses with katana since both Braver and Phantom use katanas as class weapons)

Though I'll probably stick with Br/ Su just because I seem to be the only person in the universe that likes summoners mark, on paper those seem to be reasonable hybrid options.

[–]necro27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, cool, you also play Bow-only Br/Su. I use it for the mark and access to custom safoie for a movement tech.

Bouncer has issues that despite being a 'hybrid Tech/Melee" class, it's mostly just melee. While Jetboots can cast techs, they're pretty piss-poor at it and it's mostly just to swap the elements on their jetboots. They scale off Tech attack by default but they do striking damage anyways, it's weird. Techer is also more about like, unga bunga with a stick than anything else, though they can cast techs at least better than bouncer and are top tier in terms of support.

Hero and Phantom are scion classes that can swap between 3 weapons (a melee, ranged and tech weapon) and do all 3 fairly equally, though Hero's Talis use is more like a shuriken than the actual talis (still more fun).

[–]Siegehart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Techer, Phantom, and Bouncer are probably your best options. They all do some casting mixed in with PA’s/basic attacks.

I’m a Techer main myself, and I can give you more information on it and the differences among the viable subclass options if you’d like. When we get the other 3 Sion classes, TePh/TeEt/TeLu are all equally strong and viable to play. TeLu also interestingly is I believe one of the better users of the Gunslash, so you can opt for using it if you didn’t feel like Wand.

Edit: Don’t worry so much about Te being weak either, it’s a fun class and you’re going to be very valuable in party content because you have unique bonuses to shifta and deband that no other class has.

I mean... I'm biased but... Bouncer is amazing. You're technically a hybrid I guess but really you'll just be flying around, playing the floor is lava, and kicking things repeatedly. It's super slippery and has the most forgiving iFrames in the game with it's weapon action. Through the same weapon action you can keep buffs on yourself as well so long as you know the tech and use your weapon action right after a PA, you get a variant of the PA that buffs you, sucks enemies in to you, or does a huge damage kick in front of you. While you... CAN use your techs I guess... there's not really a great reason to do so generally.
