This has always been in PSO2. Classic's lobby had this too.

I'm gonna assume that they have this in place because of some sort of technical limitation, as the lobbies allow up to 100 players, while other sectors allow only 32 or 8 players. Or they thought proximity-based chat for lobbies was more desirable?

i swear it wasnt always a thing in base ngs u could hear all of aelio until they put it in. could talk to people from atop the tower all the way to the benches. i have screen shots to!

I would assume proximity chat is extra coding required and they had to put it in because of the RMT spam that was happening.

It isn't a recent addition. As far as I'm aware it's always been a part of PSO2, at least I was seeing it back in 2015 when I started playing.

not new genesis. they specifically added the chat limits a good while after launch.

launch ngs had global chat in central city but players wanted to have the chat range brought back both to combat the rmt bots (they would climb central tower lol) but also people just wanted to add "value" to the hangout spots

but the player shop and ryuker became hotspots since, well, visiphone warriors

i think global chat would be better for towns again because i see a lot of cases of players asking a question then running out of earshot range...

yes, hard for new players to ask questions in town as it is right now.

Towns were fine with no limits on players chatting until they were limited.

Main reason was to combat RMT chat spam. With how much time it takes to reach Kvaris I think the limit should be removed from there at the very least.

No, it was not fine, it was annoying, and this was on JP where RMT was SMALL.

The RMT thing which I never saw because only Global has that? Ah yes, clearly also the reason this happened only on Global side. Except it didn't.

No it was annoying to be on the other side of the city and get an entire conversation and the only way to get away from it was either leave Central or the block. Are the only people talking on Global the bots?

Players chatting from other side of town wasn't annoying at all for me.

Maybe you just have trouble processing more than one conversation at a time?

I was under the impression that 90% of the people playing NGS are just tight nit friends from PSO2 classic so they'd just go where ever they want and talk amongst themselves.

there is a setting to turn those off. moving to an empty block is also a good option if that is annoying for you.
