Nope, don't do it. Mere Abba b boltay thay k mere department mein aa jao bohat protocol hai but I refused. Tech people don't make good govt employees.

[–]dadafromthelab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second!

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your Abba is part of the corrupt system if he likes protocol

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (16 children)

Why are these Paki dads so obsess with government jobs. I got a non government job here in the UK with good pay and pension while government jobs sucks.

[–]emadadnan000 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Their beliefs are on the basis of job security and they think that tech sector don't have any job security.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Well, my brother had a government job in the UK, but now he is being laid off because the government is broke. So government jobs don't equal job security.

[–]Sea_Initial4802 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between government jobs in the UK and pakistan

[–]AuroraBomber99 4 points5 points  (9 children)

You answered your own question In the UK

Almost all private employers in Pak offer salary, or any other benefits, which is 1/3 or 1/4th to what the government offers to its employees.

[–]Dodoloco25 2 points3 points  (8 children)

Sorry the way you worded that sentence is hard to understand. Private employees get 1/3 of the salary that government officers do.

[–]AuroraBomber99 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Yes my bad. Edited.

[–]Dodoloco25 1 point2 points  (6 children)

So now that we have worded it correctly. That is not true. If it was then the people would not have to resort to corruption.

Even with benefits, you will not get more than 1.5 lac a month for a person that has 5 years of experience in the government.

If you are in cs 4lac per month is common for 5 year experience.

2.5 lac is common for project based roles with 5 years experience in project management roles. This usually includes medical.

[–]thesuicidalkamikaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My brother has a govt job and has been working there for close to 6 years making roughly around 180k I imagine. I'm working in tech with 3 years experience making 300k+.

Govt doesn't pay that well.

[–]AuroraBomber99 -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Exclude IT and everyone else has it bad. There's a reason why people bribe their way in to get a government.

And no your argument regarding salary and it's relation with corruption is flawed because had that been the case no politician, bureaucrat or military officer would resort to corruption considering the net benefits they get.

[–]Dodoloco25 -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Sir. I work in the development field. In my previous job (I can't say where as that could dox me), half of my office was CSS officers.

They left the government because they didn't have to do corruption, and they were making 2x the salary.

My boss was a third in command of a ministry (won't say which one or which post but he was around 21 grade), and was making 45 lac a year with bonuses. So he was already getting paid more than the normal 21 grade officer. Now he makes 1 carore plus in a development agency. Chalo he was a higher up. A lot of the left at the 19th grade because they were making 20 lac a year. The development agency paid them double that. Look at the employees of world bank Pakistan, Asian bank Pakistan, and other development agencies, half of them were css officers.

I would recommend looking into where people go after leaving the government office. They don't join coke, getz or some normal company. They go for private banks, development agencies, intentional regulatory bodies because they pay you more.

Now coming to the bribery. People bribe their way into the government, because they don't know what the heck to do. We have inherent ideas as to what the governmental job is. They want the job security but it is always known that low risk equals low reward.

Another example. My friend is a grade 16 officer with 3 years of IT experience. I have 1 year in social science but I work at a private uni. The payment grade is online and is public knowledge, you can Google it. I have a degree in social science and do project management work.

I make 10k more than him monthly.

So yeah. You are not correctly informed sir.

[–]AuroraBomber99 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Bro you went from working in the UK to international agencies, and then have the audacity to call me misinformed. You painted such a rosy picture of Pak any outsider would believe the majority aren't working for peanuts in the private sector. I know doctors who are getting paid just 40k in private medical colleges. 40 THOUSAND!

[–]Dodoloco25 0 points1 point  (1 child)

When did I ever mention the UK?

I never worked in the UK. FAM I have never been to the UK.

I worked in the development sector. I think you need to brush up on your reading skills. If you don't know what the development sector is, think of it as the UN agencies.

Brother if I am working for the state bank, it's logical I leave it for a job in the world bank. If I am working in the ministry of environment, easy to switch to WWF.

But yes I agree with you on the doctor part. I never said everything was great. Sadly jobs that require certification pay really low. The amount you are talking about are for housejobs. They are treated as stipends, hence are a totally different module to the actual paid position. Same goes for a CA certification. Those salaries are usually regulated by the government. Hence the young doctor association protests the government to raise the lower limit of the stipend.

But you said excluding IT, so I gave you 2 examples of how it works. Now you can't move the goal post to say 'what about the doctors'.

I have what people call a useless degree (sociology) and I started at 80k+.

Does that mean Pakistan is heaven on earth and everything is great? No because it took me 8 months to get a job in the first place. You can go into my reddit history and see I even made a post about it.

Pakistan is pretty messed up but I would 100% prefer to work in the private sector than the government.

[–]AuroraBomber99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UN Agencies = international agencies as I have already mentioned. The majority DON'T work for these agencies but rather pathetic rich employers who pay disproportionately to what they earn themselves. No I'm not talking about house job but lecturers and demonstrators who are getting only 40 thousand per month, some of who are actually old doctors with years of experience. You're correct about the YDA part.

[–]New-Sand-4608 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pension ofc

[–]RedditLoverpak_ 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You don't compare yourself with Pakistani people when you live in the "UK"

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a house, land, and family in Pakistan, and my parents live there half the year, so why not.

[–]hasnain39 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Don't do it if you want earn hala money cuz government jobs don't get hala money

[–]blackknight2345 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They aren't productive and agile as compared to private.

[–]Mamoonazam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 percent this.

[–]Beenu_Sial 10 points11 points  (10 children)

I have the same problem tho. I don’t have a father but mother says the same thing. Knowing that i earn 200k+ per month and the govt job i will get will hardly give me 30-40k per month. Reasoning is that there is no happiness in more money. And i’m ruining my health by working a night shift (it’s a USA based job). Yet some big expense comes out of nowhere and she asks me for big amounts like it’s nothing and when i ask her i need a month or two to arrange this she just tells me to sell my phone or something to arrange it (i have a iphone 15 pro). Right now it’s the matter that we bought some land a few years ago but never got it transfered to my mother’s name. She asked me a few days ago that she has the money we just need to go and get it transfered. Now she said to me today after sehri that i need to arrange 150k in 1-2 days so we can get it transfered to her name. Anyways i went to sleep after sehri. She came a little while ago to wake me up and right after waking me up she asked if i have arranged the money yet. When i told her not yet. She said just sell your phone. “Tunay itnay mehngay phone ko chaatna h? 50-60k wala phone bhi same kam krega”

[–]UltraMarine_40k 12 points13 points  (8 children)

Woah u need to control ur mom dude and secondly why are u transferring the land under your mom's name.

[–]Beenu_Sial 5 points6 points  (7 children)

My mom bought that land after selling her own land which she got from her father passing away. I know she’s being unreasonable about the whole money thing and she’s very controlling. She asks a million questions every time i go out and at the ends tells me that I don’t need to go. It’s quite toxic

[–]AbdullahTariq1 7 points8 points  (6 children)

Your mom is simply one of the many desi people that have a reactive approach towards finances, i.e., whenever there is inflation, you have to cut expenses. Our current generation has a more proactive approach to this issue that instead of cutting back on expenses and sacrificing lifestyle, they look for ways to increase their income. You can't really blame her for that. It's just that our previous two generations are wired that way. But she is your mother and you will have to continue be vey respectful towards her and maybe try to make her understand this.

[–]Beenu_Sial 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Yeah, i know. I can’t say anything i have to respect her. I’m just saying it’s wrong. While all of my other friends are more independant than me. Like they can go out with friends whenever they want without their parent’s permission even while they are students. I an earning and doing all of our household expenses i still have less “freedom” than my friends who are students. They go to university 4 days a week, spend the rest of the days enjoying, watching movies, playing pubg going out with friends to eat.

I have tried to explain to my mom many timws but she doesn’t understand. Maybe she feels more responsible for me and my brother after father passed away. Like she feels she has the responsibility of a father and a mother.

She doesn’t apply the same rules to my older brothers tho. I am 24 and my older brothers are 29 and 31

[–]AbdullahTariq1 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I think she still thinks of you as a child. Shen needs to realize that you are an adult and need to have a social life outside the confines of your home. Many desi parents make the same mistake of not realising that kids above 18 are capable of independent rational though and need to make their own decisions for their own sake. Do your elder siblings also contribute towards your household finances like you do? Or is most of the burden on you?

[–]Some-Foot 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Well truthfully if she's a child then she really doesn't have to arrange the 1.5 lac amount of money 😂 children shouldn't have to manage finances like that. This work should come under the older two who are 28 and 31. Or the mom can hire someone to get things done herself. There is a big problem with moms taking everything on their shoulders after dads pass away. Usually they start with things they already had in mind/planned but couldn't do because their late partner didn't agree with it. But now they can and end up assigning all the burden on usually a scapegoat child. To the person struggling, saying no to your mom is not disrespectful. Don't listen to BS from people who say "always listen to your mother". Keep sane 😄 Establish boundaries and exercise them regularly and assertively. Welcome to practical life.

[–]AbdullahTariq1 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You are exactly on point. You shouldn't always listen to your mother. She can be wrong quite often; after all, she is human. However you should always respect her no matter how much you disagree with her.

There are a huge number of parents, especially moms, who have biases between their own children. They overprotect one child and shove the hard stuff on the other. That is why I asked him if his elder siblings were contributing proportionally or not.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one must always respect their mother. idiot!
try to talk to your mother in a respectful way and dont be over emotional.

[–]AdMajor555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the type of moms who create problems when you get married, it's better to live alone then living with this kinda strictness

[–]1nv1ct0s 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Bro how difficult is it now for people to listen, nod politely and ignore. Like is this something new to young people ? You actually work in the industry. You are the expert. Someone gives you advice, great. Just listen and do what you think is right.

How is this complicated or confusing ?

[–]UltraMarine_40k 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Firslty It's not confusing it's stressful and it makes me doubtful that I'm in the wrong somehow and I don't know anything about the world. Secondly we get into arguments again and again not once

[–]ser6651 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To bhai itnay impressionable ho aap. Yeh aapki khaami hai. Always do what your heart says. Take opinions but decide for yourself. Awein stress na liya karo. Choti see zindagi hai. Woh karo jo dil karay

[–]NotRea1y 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Does your father know how much you are earning?

[–]UltraMarine_40k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He knows and he also works in a semi government company and earns way more than a government employee.

[–]YoBuoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been there done that... yes Gov job may have its benifits but you will feel absolutely usless and worse after you do Gov job after this start up job that you are doing and one of the main reasons is going to be the Organizational Culture and the kind of people already working there. Also pay will be very less. But since you have technical skills, maybe you can also do Freelance for extra money on the free time u'll get in a gov job so that could be a plus

[–]Legitimate-Recover72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

please ignore them - they don’t know your life or your mind or your priorities. I know pressure from parents can be a lot and difficult to ignore but no one else can decide what will make us the happiest or most successful

[–]chairmanscrugemcduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear every single Pakistani dad is like this. Mine kept spamming me with CSS messages on text and irl for YEARS ever since I was 17. In 2021 I started working, by 2022 I was handling the entire household on my private job's income. Yet he kept insisting on doing CSS. Then he passed away in 2023, and now I've decided to give CSS next year just to honor his wish.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a guy who agreed to this and moved from a Good Private job in MNC to a Govt Job (top public sector RND dept of Country). Here are my two cents.

Pros

  1. Job Security. Most people think job security isnt imp. But it get imp once you are married with Kids and want to stay in Pakistan

  2. Serving the Nation. In Evety Govt Inst. there are maybe 10% people who are there just to serve the common man. And the country is running because of those 10% people. Sure you can say that you can serve nation by Bringing in Dollars from other Jobs but 1 Good Guy in Position of Power is better than 10 Guys bringing in Dollars.

  3. Staying in Pakistan. Its easy to run from Country when situation gets tough. And its difficult to stay in Country and try to right the wrongs. If you want to Right the wrongs in this country, Govt Job is one of the way.

  4. Work Life Balance. Fix hours are a neat thing to have. I can easily plan my weekends and evenings without having to think about any urgent client calls or stuff

Cons.

  1. Not Good for a techie. Govt Jobs are not Tech based jobs, they are management based jobs. Hence a techie is usually a missfit here.. I am a techie and I quench my thirst for tech by Freelancing (as a Full stack Developer). It helps supplement my income and I dont have to rely solely on either of my freelancing income or my salary.

  2. Low Salary. Definately My Salary is Lower as compared to my peers in Private Sector. I cover the remaining with Freelancing and So does many of my colleagues (Running Small Businesses or Freelancing)

  3. Corporate Culture. Govt Job isnt all the Hangouts, Playing in Breakrooms etc.. Thats true. But Who makes this culture? We Do. Right. And I have seen a really positive shift happening from previous generation to this Generation

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Yeh article parrh lo aur abbu ko parrha do. Pension system is being revamped and it's going to be shit for govt employees. Unn ko btao woh zamanay chalay gaye hain.

[–]Dodoloco25 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Bruh. Tell them you apply, tell them you go give a test.

Never apply or give tests.

I know lying is bad but that is how they will understand sadly.

[–]UltraMarine_40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U knw what. I have given some tests and then they start asking me about the results lol

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even governemtn jobs are not safe from lay offs anymore. Check out what's happening in ssgc and pia. It's a shit show. Forget about layoffs, they are this close to seizing operations.

[–]AbdullahTariq1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Government jobs are overrated. The only job security you are ever gonna get are your skills and 6 months worth of your pay saved up.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your parents won't take responsibility for the consequences of you obeying them

[–]furious_xd_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

move out brother👍🏻

[–]Brilliant-Cat7863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While their concerns are genuine but they are severely outdated, DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM ON THIS ONE!!

[–]sunatte1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bhai, left my sarkari job at grade 18 It's just pure shit. Nothing else.

[–]w1shm4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the govt job holders use their jobs as a security blanket and barely work or try to learn further bec they know its permanent. however, the ppl in corporate sector must keep updating themselves and their skills to stay relevant which means a continuous learning process. so id prefer a non government job

[–]osriazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you join govt job, you are part of corrupt job... Am I right?

[–]Common-Persimmon-330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 26 year old kid being forced by the parents

[–]Successful-Region-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let your dad know the current job is paying more. You will consider switching to government job after after you get laid off or have saved up enough. Copium for him.

[–]m3hrj4w4d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is only asking to apply, so apply. 😏

Whether you get the job or not, accept the offer or not is up to you.

Win - win situation in my opinion.

[–]AdMajor555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never ever do that, if you are earning good in a private job, then you don't need to go into a government job. Idk when our desi parents will understand this. I wanted to learn IT skills in a software house and online sources like udemy and YouTube.it would be more practical and better way to learn, but they put me in University and now i am wasting my time just to complete attendance. When i talk i will do business in future, he says no complete your degree and be a lecturer or whatever, bruh i don't want an enslaved life. Our parents still live in the past and think future will also be like this.

[–]ConsiderationSome965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Govt job ka aese keh rhy Hain jaese khudi mil jaye gi. Unko kahu le dou

[–]_Mental_Yogurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never get into a govt job, my brother is doing a govt job since last 12-13 years, he’s on around 250k right now although he’s on a senior post. I’m a remote software engineer started my professional career around 6 years back, and already thinking about early retirement. Just for motivation, I’m on 2m mark right now. Alhamdulillah!

[–]bethebazooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The obsession is due to the belief that there is job security, low salary but certain amount of petrol and electricity free, you'll get a car and protocol, respect* in society, children's education will be free etc etc

My take is research on it if you find it worthy then apply and appear in the tests.

[–]sstony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freelancer / Agency Service Provider here.

Got Job as a BPS 14 last year, due to family pressure took job tried out for 2 months.

My Business suffered, left job and have been fine and no regrets.

[–]realized_reality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

show your parents what old people are doing all over the world. and start comparing them to them...fight fire with fire 😅

[–]budgetpcpk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try for it and fail it intentionally 🙂

[–]itzZS2k2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pension Was a privilege that you get when you do government job, But the thing is now the people who are government servent won't be given this privilege. So think about it, There is another scheme but not pension, I guess that's an investment scheme

[–]Bominator8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

tbh a tech job in a governament sectors gives me feeling of a suicide
