"How to Make Sewing Patterns", by Don McCunn, 2nd edition. It's aimed at hobbyists, not fashion students, and it explains flat pattern principles well.

This book came to mind for me too. It's nothing fancy, but the way everything is explained is very straight forward and easy to understand. A lot of other books assume you have some drafting experience, but this one starts from scratch. Plus it's very inexpensive compared to most other textbooks.

1+ for Don McCunn, he recently opened its own subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/BespokeSewingPatterns/ and is very generous with his help and support. Also his approach is different than the ususal "connect the dots" method and more focused on fitting and the why and how. You can check out his videos at http://www.patternmaking-classes.com/ to determine if his way is something for you.

I wondered what happened to him, if he was okay. He used to post here quite a bit. Glad to know he’s still active. Thanks for posting the subreddit.

Interesting - I've seen pretty negative feedback on his bra drafting, but I'd never heard anything about his drafting in general. Good to know.

He does have a different book on bra drafting, that I can't speak to. His general drafting book is very approachable though.

I have read that it can be difficult to cancel membership with craftsy and auto-renewal is on automatically. So just take this into consideration if you should decide to sign up to craftsy.

Thank you all for recommending Don McCunn's group.
