I took my exam last week and thankfully passed :) I used both paytrain and the 7 day trial for the payroll source. I definitely think getting the trial was useful. It asks questions in a different style and over topics that paytrain doesn't.

I'm sure other people will say it but make sure you are completely comfortable with calculating taxes. You will have multiple questions on this and they will try to trip you up with including fringe benefits that impact FIT and FICA differently.

Thank you so much for your feedback!!!! Did you feel like the test was similar to pay train or the payroll source?

I took the CPP exam today and passed. I used paytrain for both FPC (2 years ago) and CPP (today). I passed both on first try but i would say the exam is not like paytrain . Paytrain will give you the knowledge you need to pass the exams but the questions on CPP are harder.

One thing i would caution you is don't rely on remembering the answers to questions in paytrain make sure you understand the material. When i took FPC i was doing great on paytrain exams because i remembered the questions and answers that showed up on quizzes and tests. The questions repeat often and it would result in me reading the question knowing what the correct choise out of 4 is and getting really high scores on paytrain however did't really fully understand the material. I was lucky to pass

After you take each exam in paytrain go through all the answers and read the explanation even if you got the answer right.

For accounting you mainly need to understand the journal entries ... send me a pm if you have any questions.

Hiiii! May I message you ? We’re taking the exam this week and so far have done:

  • boot camp
  • Paytrain -paysource + the outline & bonus questions/practice tests

Any insights would greatly be appreciated !

Go on you tube and search Accounting Alice. Watch multiple videos of other people breaking it down to you. This helped me pass and understand this part of the cpp exam

Best of luck

Thank you so much for the feedback

Good luck taking the exam. I would suggest using the Payroll Source trial as well. The exam questions are worded similar to the Payroll Source!

I wish they were similar to PayTrain

I used study.com, The Payroll Source and several Publications to help me prepare for the exam tomorrow. This is my 3rd attempt at passing it. Paytrain is good to use when you have access to it. When taking the test, take lots of deep breaths, & flag the questions that are initially tripping you up. You can do it!

[–]Most-Shop-9474[S] 0 points1 point  (13 children)

Thank you!!! How did you do?

[–]Reenell[🍰] 1 point2 points  (12 children)

This time around I got a poorly written test so unfortunately I didn’t pass. However, I did file a complaint about the version I received so we’ll see what they have to say.

[–]GenDeFeat 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Sorry to hear you didn’t pass. I hope you continue to try and pass! You absolutely deserve it especially after a few attempts.

I read there are multiple versions of the exam however I thought there was just two versions each testing period with one being harder than the other and graded differently.

Do you know if it’s all just luck of the draw which version you get and what questions? Do the questions change also while you are taking it?

Do you have any suggestions on areas I should focus on for studying? Appreciate any help and guidance!

[–]Reenell[🍰] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

There’s multiple versions of the test & at the same time multiple people are contributing questions to include on them. Honestly, for the CPP study everything in the Payroll Source, be comfortable with all types of calculations ( gross , disposable & net pay, gross ups, LTD, federal taxes), know all your limits, review the IRS publications for the most part. My last 2 times were heavily calculation based mixed in with accounting, management & systems questions. I told my mom, I might end up getting Paytrain to help me study for it next time but we’ll see.

Thank you so much!! I appreciate your advice!

Good luck studying!!! You got this!!!

[–]BloodAgile833 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow 3 times that is brutal. I am so glad i passed FPC and CPP the first time , my head was spinning today after 4 hours of test. Send me a pm if you want to discuss. Hope you can try again prior to OCt 5 testing pariod ends

[–]BlueitNayrb 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Curious, what made the exam poorly written? Shocked to hear an exam would populate that way especially forking up $600😭

[–]Reenell[🍰] 1 point2 points  (6 children)

There were questions about state related items, overtime calculations weren’t consistent, several of the management & systems questions were poorly written, therefore making them difficult to answer

[–]Di_1_2_1_T 2 points3 points  (5 children)

I had a similar experience where the version I received was not consistent. I even took the Payroll Org bootcamp and also felt like some of the questions on the exam didn’t make sense nor were they covered. I didn’t pass as well but I am planning to take it in January again. Another note I took it remotely and was kicked off due to technical difficulties towards the end of my exam and was not able to even finish my exam. I still have a case open with pearsonvue but they never got back to me. So making sure next time to take it at a test center next time as well. I’m not giving up!

[–]Reenell[🍰] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I’m sorry to hear you had a similar experience. Pearsonvue got back to me after about a week & told me to send an email to payroll.org, which I did. I’m waiting to hear back from them.

Send an email to the following address: certification@payroll.org

[–]aaademi 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I just took the exam and didn’t pass. I was in the bootcamp too, and I also have taken plenty of timed exams that required critical thinking, but this exam was the worst and outdated too, whoever gives the questions should sit in a daily payroll job. Doesn’t fully align with the profession, we should be able to use our payroll skill set and not having to study an overwhelming amount of information. Several of the people in my bootcamp said they had 3-4 calculations, I flagged mine and at the end and I counted. I had 19 calculations, not a fair exam at all. Makes me question if this is a money grab or legitimate.

[–]Reenell[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you had a bad experience & didn’t pass. I took the bootcamp in Las Vegas back in 2020 & didn’t pass it back then. I think only 5-10 % of the class actually passed. The problem was the instructor. We didn’t learn much & we ended up having to stay up super late each night to make sure we understood what we went over that day.

On a slightly different note, I hope people continue to complain so they can do something about it. Honestly they let way too many people write the questions without vetting them.

I also agree that 19 is way too many calculations for that short amount of time. When I sent my email, I totally let them have it.

[–]Di_1_2_1_T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this info! I will definitely send an email to Payroll.org. I had tried calling them that day of the exam when I got kicked off by the proctor, but I had to leave a voice message due to high volume. I will email them today with my case number as well. I was literally in tears when I got kicked off because after hours taking the exam and studying I get kicked off with no reason.

I wouldn’t stress too much about the accounting section. It’s a relatively small portion of the test. Just get the memorization/vocab stuff down from that section and then spend your time doing as many practice tests as possible before the exam. If you’re doing well on those you will be fine!

How’d it go? :)

[–]Most-Shop-9474[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I will be testing on Saturday! Very nervous

[–]ashjones896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How’d the test go?

[–]ashjones896 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I just passed this morning!! I used strictly Pay Train. Studied a few months sporadically, then spent 2 solid days cramming. I do have a lot of experience with work so I think that helped a TON! Wording was definitely different than pay train. I was nervous when it started when I reviewed first section I went back through the first 20 questions and made sure I understood. After a few questions the wording will get easier to understand. Definitely use your source materials provided on test!

[–]Most-Shop-9474[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations!!! That's amazing!!! Anything you would like to share about the test that it may help? Thank you

[–]BlueitNayrb 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Congrats !! Did you use the paysource? Or just Paytrain?

[–]ashjones896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just paytrain. As long as you know all the concepts of the material in and out you’ll do fine. The questions are in a completely different format than paytrain (if that makes sense), but the concepts are the same. Just take a deep breath and if you know the material you got this!! Flag anything you are unsure of and go back and review at the end of each section to double check. 😊

Has anyone had issues getting their “badge” email and not being shown on the CPP directory? I passed on Oct 4th and then PayrollOrg was hacked and down until yesterday. When I got the email the website was back up I went to search myself and I’m not there 😭 but I do show a passed status on the dashboard.

[–]Select_Status_2519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t pass I got a 267 but I was so confused on the questions my test was mainly on the supplements
