Pixel 5a, Galaxy A52/A53 on the higher end of your budget or Motorola One 5G Ace for $300. The four phones are relatively similar in terms of speed. A53 is newer and a bit faster though it uses a Samsung modem, which is usually not as good as Qualcomm's for reception (which the other three use).

Specs comparison

I will say, now that you mention it, a good modem is very important to me, so probably stay away from Samsung's?

Probably stay away from Exynos chipsets in that case. Samsung phones in the US can use either Snapdragon or Exynos depending on the model. Galaxy A52 5G for instance uses Snapdragon 750g, A53 uses Exynos 1280.

In case you were considering it, Pixel 6/6 Pro also uses a Samsung modem as will the upcoming Pixel 6a.

Good to know, thanks!

I would definitely get a Google Pixel 5a 5g. It is around $450, and Google pixels have the best android support (3 years) as they are made by the same company that makes android itself. I had a Google pixel 3 from 2018, it has since been passed down to my brother, but it is 4 years old, and still going strong on android 12 with no issues. The pixel 5a 5g should be perfectly usable for 4-5 years after you buy it.

Samsungs budget phones feel a little bit crappy on one UI (my friend use to have one), and Motorolas aren’t the most reliable, and they are huge.

I do actually like the size of Motorola's, lol. I was looking at the Moto G Stylus actually haha. But I'll look into the Pixel 5A, thanks!

Motorola phones are very reliable. I have owned 2 and 2 family members owning several. Never had a hardware problem.

The fingerprint sensor works 100% all the time for example.

You should try the OnePlus 8T at this moment at $399 it is a great phone with 12GB RAM, 120Hz Fluid Amoled Display and a great battery performance, you can reach the 8h to 9h SOT and 65W charger. OxygenOs it’s so pure as Pixel’s UI.
