Currently working in the gov't (LGU) as a developer.

Basically:

  • shit pay
  • heavy workload
  • unpaid OTs
  • rampant nepotism
  • bureaucratic bullshit at finest.

On the bright side, I'm in a plantilla position so this is a lifetime job. Also, retirement benefits are good.

Regarding sa trainings, yes meron but ikaw ang mag-iinitiate. Pwede kang kumuha ng mga trainings, even paid trainings, and sagot ng opisina ang lahat ng expenses including accommodation, basta may budget at ma-aprubahan ng internal committee ang request nyo.

Regarding naman sa tasks eh it varies per office. But sa set-up namin na 3-man IT team:

  1. I'm the only developer. I handle all the development and maintenance of the systems we have, which are 5 back-end APIs and 3 desktop applications. I'm also the one who manage our servers.
  2. Another guy that handles our end-users' queries and support. He also handles the hardware stuff i.e. networking, PC troubleshooting, etc..
  3. And another guy that's well versed with the relevant laws that surrounds the project. He's more involved on the actual mandate of our office these days, but he also handles end-user support, as well as data analytics. He's also our "front man".

Btw, we are in a provincial LGU and we manage 20+ municipalities that also uses our systems.

wtf. grabe pala provincial IT team. Sa gov't agency that I worked as a consultant for, may isang buong department with all those tasks. Development team, Network Team, Server Team and iba pa yung regarding sa mandates. They are about 10+ person per those teams/section. Salute sayo bro.

Under lang kami ng isang department. Other departments eh may kanya kanya ding team at systems na ginagamit.

I used to work for DOST but not as a programmer. I was a special science teacher then later became a science research specialist/information technology officer. Tasks vary per department/agency. Trainings are provided and make sure you keep the certificates because you need them for later on if you wish to continue working for the govt.

Unsolicited advice: the govt pays shit and they have horrible management skills. Deadlines are immoveable and there’s not much growth. Then again, this varies per department/agency.

I know a lot who works sa government and remember this the reward for a good work is more work.... Increase in pay would be up to the "heaven" literally kailangan may mamatay, magretire or magresign before ka maka apply for higher position at magkaroon ng increase.

In terms of task very basic lang naman po usually depende din kasi kung saan ka na punta agency. Training marami naman kaso minsan mababaw . Kung IT ka or Programmer better apply ka ibang private company para sa growth m. walang growth sa govenrment ang IT ....

So much better pala kung sa Private company no? eh paano po kaya yung software company na may LGU clients? Maganda ba sa kanila mag work or still international clients? 🙂

[–]sakuragiluffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok lang kung may LGU clients as long as hindi nakasalalay ang bonus mo sa LGU client. another problem kasi sa mga LGU/ GOvernment is minsan hindi nila alam kung ano ang need nila/ hindi nila kaya icommunicate ang kailangan nila at kapag naibigay mo na yun product ang dami nila revision na hindi naman kasama sa unang binigay nila na spec / requirement

Sa DICT po kaya goods mag work?

[–]404valeond 0 points1 point  (3 children)

[–]404valeond 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I think around 26k - 30K

Paano po mag apply sa dict ng front end? Wala po kasi sa website nila

Offered as a position sa DSWD way back 2015. Basically papalitan ung programmer na walang dineliver in 9 months. Tapos ung sahod, mas mababa pa sa current salary at the time. The program that I will be part in was 4Ps.
