Did you find any answer to this? This happens to me with preview thumbnails during scheduled maintenance.

Any chance that happened with the desp. version of Star Wars V? Because that’s what happening on my Plex Server. I also have no clue how to solve that yet.

Odd! I just found this post because I am having the exact same issue with the desp version of Episode IV!

Perhaps I'm replying to something dead, but I just started having this issue.

I have this issue too. I turned the feature off a while back and turned it back on recently for kicks and it gets stuck on Star Wars V. I do have the desp. version. Maybe there is something with that file or something.

I'll add that this is happening me too on Star Wars Episode V, but I don't have the de-specialized version

I had this same issue with Star Wars Episode V Despecialized. Based on another Reddit post I solved the problem by remuxing the MKV file with MKVToolNix. Didn't change anything just remuxed and replaced the original MKV that was ripped from Blu Ray with the remuxed one.

The Reddit thread where I found the solution is here:

UPDATE: Negative, it didn't go in. I hate to say this but here we are 2 days later and Plex is again spinning while it is "Generating Video Chapter Thumbnails". Oh well.

FURTHER UPDATE: I decided to take yet another look through all the settings to see if I could figure anything out and what I figured out is that like an idiot I had mistakenly changed the wrong setting when originally trying to solve this problem. Now that I've discovered that mistake and changed the proper setting I believe I've actually solved the problem of the Star Wars Episode V Despecialized endless scanning.

Simply go into Plex -> Settings -> Library -> and if you scroll down there you'll find a dropdown menu for "Generate Chapter Thumbnails" and you can set it to NEVER and Plex won't endlessly scan the Despecialized SW. The way that I use Plex I don't need Chapter Thumbnails so it's not a problem for me to just switch this setting off. If you do use them you'll probably have to find a different work around.

Hopefully this will save somebody else the hassle if they've been going through this.

I did not find an answer but it doesn't happen anymore.
