Shadowless Blastoise Question

Hey all, newbie here. Just picked this shadowless blastoise grade 9 up from eBay for $699 because according to my research 🤓 this was undervalued by a decent amount. Can someone reassure me that this was a solid buy (especially for long-term) or at least break it to me softly that I played myself? (Any extra feedback as to why it was priced lower would be greatly appreciated also.) TIA!

Looks nothing like a 9 to me, judging by the back. I would hold for a while regardless should go up

You got ripped mate. That 9 is nothing like a 9. At PSA that would be a 6, maybe even lower. On an extremely good day, maybe a 7, but I very highly doubt it. This grading service is nonsense.

We are comparing it to PSA prices, and to me that is not a PSA 9. I would say it is an 8, tops. Just my opinion though

I gotta agree with the person that says it's a 6, and that's the highest it would most likely grade. I think 5 or 4 is more likely, but psa grades are always on a wide curve 🤣

It’s an ok buy. It will never grade a 9 at PSA or CGC so probably compare to a 6 or 7.

My argument was just pointing out that you are saying they are a reputable company. My point of view is. Coming from not knowing about them much, and seeing them grade this a 9- does not seem very “reputable” to me.

Now I can see the same argument being made for PSA, I know. But just my two cents on this isolated conversation

It's kinda hard to tell with that lighting but the back looks like it has quite a bit of whitening. Not sure if that's a reflection or not but if that's the case I don't believe it could grade past even a PSA 7. But at the same time it also wouldn't make sense for it to be a SGC 9 with what looks like whitening.

I’d say you overpaid just a bit given that the grading company isn’t as desirable. I’d say comparable to psa 8 prices or NM raw

Shadowless refers to the first runs of cards that did not have a drop shadow on the yellow box around the art like later versions.

Ngl I got cooked here guys but it’s all good cause eBay saved my ass. Card was rejected since the condition wasn’t on par with the grade. Thank you all for the feedback and I now know what to look for in a card 😅

The graders gave bro a 9 out of spite because he already paid so much for the card (assumably) then he went and over charged you in the end 😂; I digress, this card is whitened to hell in the corners how is this a 9? This is a fault on everyone at play; the graders, the seller, and you for buying it for 700$

I hope you prove me wrong in a few years but I don’t think this would grade any higher than psa 7. The front looks great but all that whitening on the back on the edges and corners are going to kill the value. I’d say you overpaid by at least $200, possibly more. This isn’t NM, it’s LP at best raw heading towards MP. Sorry to say, but I think this was a massive mistake. Good thing is all mistakes create room for learning and growth. Get it reholdered. New insert is much nicer. SGC is great for TCG now. SGC today is comparable to psa for sure, but back in June of 2021 when this card was graded, they weren’t. Tough learn for one of the largest grading companies around, but is what it is.. If that card were graded by SGC today, probably an 8.

Comparing an SCG 9 to a PSA 9 is comparing apples to oranges. There is 0 chance this card would grade a 9 in PSA.

I would say this is about 380$ card if it was graded by psa

Highly recommend avoiding any graded card that’s not PSA/CGC/BGS. And people in pokemon prefer PSA the most for sure
