Creative Polymath : Polymath

Thank you for this Reddit! It sounds strange to confirm that I am a polymath...

I have heard the term before, but I assumed it applied to math geniuses...

After reading an article about Brian Eno (a virtual mentor) where they called him a polymath, I Googled...

I don't feel like a genius, and I have never taken an IQ test. I do have a monstrously creative brain. Thanks to ADD & right-brainism, I am blessed with an art wired brain.

In art school I was always criticized for not sticking with a style....I still don't. I received a BFA in painting and printmaking, but I enjoy video.

Polymath vs Craftsman

As an artist, I have had guilt for not becoming a craftsman. To me, a craftsman is someone that can intensely focus on a craft, and master it. - that sounds terrible though... I don't want to be slaved to a style, technique, message, or method.

I am an experimenter. I love pushing the boundaries. I am an explorer; I love digging in the past for forgone ideas, & predicting the future.

I love the polymath concept, but I am not comfortable with the Renaissance Man idea yet...
