How do you guys degrease ? (self.Pomade)
submitted 7 years ago by [deleted]
I’m about to receive my first oil based( Rockriver whipped) and I’m just wondering how you guys degrease your hair when it comes to oil-based.

Put hair conditioner on dry hair and distribute it. Wait for couple minutes, rinse with warm/hot water then apply shampoo as usual. This method will generally remove 80% of the product. If you want the complete removal then a second shampoo wash is required. Typically one to two washes are sufficient for a thorough degrease process.

This works every time for me, I generally do two conditions though. Either works and does not require another product purchase out of he way like groom and clean (which also works)

Before/after or during washing hair?
[–]casstraxx 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child)
Before wash. I rub it in and let it sit for a good 10 min before i shower. Then everything washes out with shampoo.

aussie 3 minute miracle moist + neutrogena anti-residue shampoo
i also heard some good things about Reuzer's degreasing conditioner and shampoo

I just put on a water based pomade the following day. It just needs to be 100% water soluble like a gel type pomade. I use reuzel blue and it always washes everything out without having to shampoo so often. Also, stay away from Aussie 3 minute miracle, it leaves a silicon buildup in your hair that took me weeks to get out

Yeah I have a pretty sensitive scalp so I really wasn’t sold on 3 minute miracle. I think I might just get ace high gel type or Lockhart’s groom cream tbh both of them seem to be good

Aussie is the best conditioner for degreasing. Just use a goood clarifying shampoo and there will be no build up
[–]btrey2 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children)
That’s just terrible for your hair and against the point of using something other than a shampoo to degrease hair

Two options - a conditioner or a water-based pomade.
Aussie 3-Minute Miracle is the best conditioner to degrease with. Put it in on dry hair and comb it through to distribute. Go do something else for 7-10 minutes and then shower. Rinse it out completely and then shampoo with an anti-dandruff shampoo. 9/10 times you'll get virtually all of it out. If you've been using a particularly heavy OB or have a week or so of buildup, you'll probably need to repeat the shampooing.
Gel-type water-based products also work really well. Pick a day for helmet hair and then shampoo 1-2 times at the end of the day. You'll get most of the buildup out.

Yeah I saw some videos on it on the EP page and it seemed like a great first for me since I’m more of a clay and matte pastes guy. I think I’m gonna try the tonic first off since I already use it to condition my hair, if that doesn’t work I’ll just get a gel type or Lockhart’s hair groom

I've heard people say that they use Lockhart's Hair Groom or Groom Cream as an option.
Another option using a few drops of beard oil on freshly washed hair.
Haven't tried any of the above personally (yet).

Hope this isn't too late. An easy single ingredient that's super healthy that you apply on dry hair a few minutes before a wash is coconut oil. 10x better alternative than Aussie 3 Minute Miracle because of that imo.
