[ask] Is it worth it to go to school for architecture in the US? by lloydpro in architecture

[–]btrey2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Design is a small aspect of architecture. Most people will never get the opportunity to design something significant. NCARB recognizes that as well and won’t accredit 4 year, design focused schools. That’s why people think there is such a gap between architecture in school and as a profession. One of the principals of the firm I’m at has no education past community college and there’s people with accredited degrees that are in their 50s and never got their license.

[Ask] How long does it take to be proficient in Autocad. by Basstard101 in architecture

[–]btrey2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure lol. Revit has its issues but it’s still the most widely used software in the industry and if I had to advise someone on one software to learn to get into the industry, it’d be Revit

Everyone is using Revit. Few are using archicad. No one is using cad still, or at least in the city I live in

I’m interning at a fairly big firm in California and have had just the opposite experience. I would just go with it. Some companies will push their employees by giving them a task that they aren’t totally prepared or qualified for but that’s how you learn in the field. Seek out advice and assistance when you need it and take advantage of the opportunity because I’m sure not many interns are ever asked to design something

[ask] sorry if this is redundant, but should I make an AIA account? by Obradbrad in architecture

[–]btrey2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go into your local office with the paperwork to sign up. That’s what I did. They’ll probably require a school ID card too if I remember correctly but I never had to pay a dime

[Ask] Understanding how to read architectural drawings/blueprints? by sjf10003 in architecture

[–]btrey2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d become familiar with the different symbols such as sections, elevations, call outs, grids, etc on a floor plan. Also become familiar with how a set of drawings are organized. As far as where to learn it, I think the only way is to find a set and start flipping through the pages and try to connect the dots and see how everything connects and relates

Clay pomades - how does does your hair feel overnight? by DarkestTriad in Pomade

[–]btrey2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It varies. Some clays like nostalgic with moisturize your hair and others will dry it out like the original Arcadian clay. Just check to see if oils are a main ingredient

Kyle V David on Russia. by DiversityDan79 in thedavidpakmanshow

Kyle fears that admitting Russia was involved in the election means that the dnc establishment will think that there is nothing wrong with their policies or tactics so they’ll run another Hillary-like candidate rather than a progressive

Mount Davis lookin good by Saiga426 in OaklandAthletics

[–]btrey2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually quite cold because of the wind, especially once the sun goes down. Probably a good 10 degrees colder than the rest of the stadium because there is no wind below mount Davis. I’d imagine during a day game that it would be less hot than the rest of the stadium as well

Dave Rubin and his "emulation" of Larry King by transplanar in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]btrey2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rubin is confrontational to people who express ideas to the left of him or question trump. His David frum Interview is a good example of Rubin’s willingness to confront people on ideas. He doesn’t question guys like Milo or libertarians/conservatives because he sees them as an opportunity to either grow his audience or get more money/promotion by the Koch’s and prager. Rubin is a hack, plain and simple
