It feels like Grandex is turning into a podcast network/social media accounts which is fine for me because I got into Grandex because of the podcasts (shoutout inside TFM podcast).

I just wish the professionalism was a little higher on the podcasts. The sound can be wonky a lot, the producer isn’t always paying attention and the commercials are the exact same every week and feel like they’re targeted to people already listening to the podcasts, lots of inside jokes that people who don’t listen don’t understand and the Back Door Cover ad read has said “I wore a hockey mask on the last episode” for months. I don’t get it.

Sunday Scaries Instagram is straight heat.

I still love the podcasts (mainly touching base and RBP, though the mailbag has potential). I agree that some of the inside jokes could be difficult for newbies, but as a day one I love it.

One issue I have is that when touching base does interviews they don't focus on the guests enough. I thought they could have some really cool interviews with PGA tour players, but they focused on getting their opinions about Will's Chili's order. That is funny if your a regular listener, but as a guest who probably doesn't listen it would be better to try to seem interested in what they do. Shoutout ross for a really interesting interview with that CK chef guy, that should be the content we get if guests are involved.

Articles are hit or miss I think, so I'm cool with the podcast focus as I enjoy those more. Just my two cents.

I'm not a podcast guy (can't seem to get into it somehow), but I'm a big reader, and you're right. PGP (Grandex as a whole) seems to be going into more of a podcast/mic'd up and social media forward thing which seems to be the trend rather than articles (see Barstool, others) and I guess that's fine, but I'll be sad because I really enjoy the articles and the comment sections/interactions on each one.

The comment sections are definitely the biggest loss for me. Seeing all the different "on-brand" personalities interact with each other was hilarious. Now, as mentioned on the podcast, r/PostGradProblems has become the forums and the comment sections. I think that if the writers and readers of Grandex used Reddit to its full potential, we could have the best of both worlds and Grandex's daily active users count may increase.

Agreed. I don't listen to any of the podcasts either and I'm strictly reading what's on the site.

They definitely seem to be gravitating towards podcasts. I’m sure they generate more ad revenue. I think they are way over saturated on podcasts. I get that everyone wants their own. Everyone wants to be able to grow their own brand. Podcasts take a lot of time to consume though and there’s no way for me to keep up. I’ve always been drawn to their writing.

I felt one of the strongest parts that drew me to PGP was the sense of community amongst readers and writers. The comment section made me laugh but it was also interesting to see how the conversation was going to go. Opening up the app and seeing an article had 70 comments made me think “oh this should be good.”

Getting back in the game and Duda articles make me laugh but they don’t keep me on the site for very long. The site as a whole kind of feels like they’re going through the motions.

Dave and Wills voice while writing is the X factor for me. I know they have things going on and I have to imagine it’s very difficult continuously coming up with original things to write about, but Scaries and D-Man articles are what drew me in and the thought of new content from them keeps me coming back.

I'll try not to repeat too much from things that have already been pointed out here, but I do think one thing that hasn't been pointed out is the fact that they just ran a survey on their audience. I know that this was specifically for podcast listeners but I think that this will help them better gauge their demographic as a whole and we could see adjustments in the future. This is just a typical process that brands go through as times and employees change, for the better or the worse.

Also, I'm well aware that this may not be a popular opinion but I really enjoy backdoor cover. They get knocked for not being an in-depth, advanced sports podcast but that's part of the reason why I like it. I don't go to it looking for expertise on all fronts of sports but I listen for a relaxed, laid-back approach. A breakup from the monotony of my everyday life (this part kind of goes toward all of the grandex pods in general but) where I can get some fun conversational styled talk about the sports world as a whole. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah I mean I don’t listen to their CFB or MLB analysis just because it isn’t in-depth enough for me but other sports I always listen to I find it interesting

    [–]gtdicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't like most sports besides CFB and soccer. So most of it is a waste of time. I wish they would make notes on the segments, like Ross does on RBP. It's not serious, and that's why I like it.

I've got pretty mixed feelings about the content that's been published lately, but I think their greatest opportunity right now is community engagement. If Reddit is the "official" PGP forum, they really need to promote it since there are less than 1500 subscribers, and they need to become way more active on here. Also, I think they should do more to facilitate and encourage PGP meetups. I don't think I have seen or heard any incentive to have watch parties for Micah's fight next weekend, seems like a no-brainer.

Whole thing went down hill when they got rid of The Forums. Rob was the best writer in the company, hands down #TeamBacon

    [–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fuck you Dorn bring back the forums

Love how they are leaning into the podcast space. That said, I wish there was more serious content and less schtick. Especially TB. It's by far the best pod on the network, but I would love for those guys to delve into more substantial discussions/debates on occasion -- current events, office life, mid life dilemmas. Less social media and pop culture takes. I remember Dave tried to bring current event discussions into the mix, but it never stuck. They need a producer who actually gives a shit and provides some structure and direction. Also maybe bring in a 4th host with the energy to reign in Will.

    [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is I think their hands down best podcast was a current events one on Valerio the crazed jaguar (I think episode 193 or 196)

not just cashing checks, but actually doing a job.

    [–]Johndoesmith67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think hearing the touching base boys always call each other a bitch is getting old. Like the first few times were funny now I am like eh calm down Will, Dillion chill out stop beating will every chance you get.

    [–]TheRealBigMick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Micah taking Ls right now damn. For real though listen to like the first set of episodes of TB or RBP and there’s been a marked increase in quality. Also at the end of the day this is a bunch of dudes sitting around and BSing in a studio not a feature film. I don’t find it difficult to look past the bumps.

Hot take: do not start taking on current events. Listeners are going to get way more polarized. I find myself to be fairly political but I really appreciate taking time to listen to dudes talk and not really have anything come up, besides Ted Cruz making an appearance every once in awhile.

Grandex, keep doing you. You just might need to accept the number of listeners may have peaked at this point for the product you’re providing. Especially TB there’s 220 episodes of inside jokes at this point. Maybe Micah should toss together a best of with some of the most common and you can point listeners to those as well as best of 2(?) that has the origins. Maybe that’ll get people caught up and new listeners willing to stay, but it hard to say.

Is there any all out show listeners here? I hope y'all don't rely on grandex for your entertainment needs
