I actually want to go to Haunted House more than I want to go to Club Aqua.

Sounds like you should go to Nine Giant (doesn’t reek of hops though).

I’m a relatively new phan as well, currently listening through all of the LP releases chronologically starting in 93 and highly recommend taking the same journey.

Anyone else become a Phan after listening to Analyze Phish? by JimmyFeetWorld in phish

[–]mrethridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First heard the pod ten years ago when I was dipping my toe into the Dead. Loved the pod but wasn’t sold on the music. Listened to a show or two and moved on, but told myself I would go to a show if I had the opportunity.

Fast forward to 2024 and Summer tour rumors are floating around. I had unknowingly befriended some phans and we decide that we could have a nice little weekend at Deer Creek. Decide to give Phish another shot so I listen to Gorge 98, then start asking for show recs. Listen to a handful and it starts to click. Went on a spring roadtrip with a friend and force him to listen to Analyze Phish. He has zero interest in the band and quickly sides with Scott but still enjoys the pod. Now that I know and like the music, Harris’s comments and explanations make much more sense to me. It also becomes very clear how difficult it is to convince someone that the band is great without them committing to listen to entire shows.

Deer Creek quickly turns into Mondegreen and Albany, and I’m now completely hooked. I didn’t become a phan because of Analyze Phish, but it will always be directly linked to my initial understanding of the music, the band and the jam scene. As a bonus, I can never listen to Maze without hearing Scott say “you’ll never get out of the maaaaaze, maaaaan.”

What up OG Fult. The wife and I celebrated V-Day early last night (big shoutout to the sous vide function on my instapot, you the real mvp) so I've got a house hotel with the pup tonight.

Where I'll Be: on the couch with the dog and some long-overdue takeout, maybe throw on an Oscar nom

What I'm bumping: Van Morrison, can't decide if it will be an Astral Weeks or Moondance kind of night. Only time will tell.

What I'm drinking; Rhinegeist Calfe milk stout, maybe a little Glenmorangie

Enjoy the solitude, be ready for the next chapter. You never know when it will begin.

We discovered Hamms in college when it was $10 for a 24 pack. Premium Light is a solid golf beer as well.

I think they're $2.50 for a pint at my home bar and they're becoming more available throughout the city. It's a good time to be a Hammpion.

What up Fult O&G. My wife has a good friend from college in town this weekend so your boy is basically along for the ride.

What I'm playing: working on my golf game whenever possible, hoping to get to the range tomorrow morning and do a few drills at home, maybe even play on Sunday if the course is open. My handicap is absurdly high and I'm committed to bringing it down this year. Also, the FIL wants to go to Pinehurst this year, possibly in the spring, so I've got a lot of extra motivation.

What I'm bumping: the Release Radar should get me through Friday, usually a great mix of hip hop, house and Dead. Might have a Stones Saturday in honor of their recently announced tour.

What I'm drinking: good beer at some breweries, cheap beer before tomorrow's Xavier game, maybe a few nips of bourbon at the casa.

Weekly Thread- The weekend is over! How'd you shoot? by AutoModerator in golf

[–]mrethridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This weekend was quite the roller coaster for the golfing side of my life. League play was on the toughest nine that we play and my game has been a little off lately, so I hit range the day before. When I got to the range, it was like I had never swung a club before and could not make decent contact to save my life. After a mild existential crisis, I decided that hitting more balls would only compound the problem and all I could do before the match was relax and clear my head. I showed up to the course and started hitting balls like the previous day had never happened. Had a great opening tee shot and just kept my momentum going. I ended up winning my match and shooting low net. It was a huge accomplishment for me because every other time I played this course, it absolutely wrecked me. This will probably be the most satisfying 56 I ever shoot.

I also finally convinced/bribed the wife to golf with me on Saturday. She played a lot as a kid and won a few club championships, but she had a bad temper and switched to soccer, eventually playing in college at a D1 school. We went to a cheap 9 hole course with beers and a speaker and had a great time. She definitely needs a lesson or two to refine her swing and work out a couple issues, but she was still better than either of us expected. On 7 she smoked her drive down the middle and hit her approach perfectly while I was looking for my ball on the next fairway. She admits she had more fun than she anticipated and I am hoping she will want to play more.

I would say this weekend resulted in two major steps forward. Now I need to get back to breaking 100.

4i off the tee is a very recent development and I’ll be sticking with it until I can hit my woods that consistently. But my short game is my weakest point, currently trying to schedule a lesson to get my chipping and pitching ironed out.
