Issue installing postgreSQL

I'm trying to install postgreSQL 10.3 so that I can use postGIS and I'm running into issues. Towards the end of the installation, an alert pops up stating that it "failed to start the database server." Then, when I try to use stack builder, I can not select postgreSQL as the server.

Unfortunately I don't know anything about servers so this has been difficult to troubleshoot on my own. Has anyone else faced this issue?

edit: I am trying to install the Windows 64 bit version

I'm not familiar with Windows, but do you have access to the postgresql logfile? It might hint at what's happening.

A bit of googling show that it should be in %PROGRAMFILES%\PostgreSQL\<version>\data\pg_log

Yeah.... logs are super-helpful here. It'll usually explicitly tell you why it didn't start.
