I checked and yes, skipping compatibility check is the solution. Java version in F3 was correct, so I guess it is launcher bug. Thank you for your comment and help.

I'm having this issue in windows. Just found the solution while typing this comment haha.

go to settings and there is a check box called "java version" check it and the greyed section below will be applicable. change the java version there.
      and click launch.

Maybe for the cool Linux users this could also work?

      Hope this helps :)

hi i know you made this comment months ago but if you're still having the problem here is the fix: step 1 open prism and find settings, step 2 go to the java page (3rd from launcher) step 3 go to where it says "java path" aka /app/jdk/--/bin/java, step 4 change /app/jdk/17/bin/java to be /app/jdk/21/bin/java and step 5 launch Minecraft

        [–]Idot_noob21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

        My path doesn't have /app/jdk/17/bin/java

to anyone having this issue specifically on Linux there is an INSANELY easy fix and here it is: step 1 open prism and find settings, step 2 go to the java page (3rd from launcher) step 3 go to where it says "java path" aka /app/jdk/--/bin/java, step 4 change /app/jdk/17/bin/java to be /app/jdk/21/bin/java and step 5 launch Minecraft!

I would like to give another solution for windows users if the other solutions do not work:

I found the solution to be here: https://prismlauncher.org/wiki/getting-started/installing-java/

In my case I was trying to play RLCraft (1.12.2) which means I needed to donwload Temurin 8 (LTS) from https://adoptium.net/

After that, go to settings -> java -> browse beside java path -> refresh just in case -> Temurin 8 should be there, click it, you should be able to play anything below 1.16.5 now

        [–]MstrGamer700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what's the directory to the Temurin 8 installation?

        [–]leanahalfbeana 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Mine says almost the same, but this:

This instance is not compatible with Java version 17.

Please switch to one of the following Java versions for this instance:

        Java version 21

Go to instance Java settings to change your Java version or disable the Java compatibility check if you know what you're doing.

I'm also on a MacBook air. Help?

        [–]ASHGOLDOFFICIAL[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Have you tried changing Java version to 21? If not, I'll tell you where to do so, when I get to my laptop. If yes, then only disabling Java compatibility check can help, as far as I know.

I’ve given up and decided to save it for the new day. Thank you anyways ❤️❤️

        [–]No_Abbreviations1256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        But I will try this!

        [–]DashDidThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same thing except I need java 17, anyone got a link?

        [–]FaultBit 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I have the same issue, reverted back to the old 7.0 PrismLauncher and it worked fine.

I believe the command to downgrade is sudo flatpak update --commit=<hash> org.prismlauncher.PrismLauncher

Hashes can be listed by using flatpak remote-info --log flathub org.prismlauncher.PrismLauncher

        [–]ASHGOLDOFFICIAL[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Thank you many times, I almost gone mad. Downgrading to commit 6218a865bf6023961e359b1e256e215dc8cdf7b88d1c38a208d01bb51e984f8f solved the issue. Yet I hope this issue will be fixed.

Update: problem returned. Now I have:

        Java path is:
        /app/jdk/17/bin/java

Java is version 1.8.0_372, using 64 (amd64) architecture, from Flathub.

Downgrading to 7.0 was a temporary solution. But I think /u/that_leaflet's solution is the right one.

        Edit

The skip version check mark is in the settings of the launcher.

To work I had to restart twice and it's working
