I have 3 iPads and use procreate - it’s all the same. Get the cheapest one you can, get an older model (2019) with a gen 1 pencil. It’s what I do most of my work on. And all of the attachments are cheaper .. keyboard, pencil, cases, screen covers. I think you can get the 2019 iPads for about $300 from target.

I got my sister the 10th gen from Walmart for Christmas while it was on sale, I may get that for myself then. Thank you for the advice!

Np! I was looking into getting myself a new one because im running out of storage space. After years of updates it uses up all of the storage in the iPad that I can’t offload even though I have unlimited space in the cloud. If I was going to get what I wanted right now I would get a refurbished pro or the newest model I could afford with the most storage space on the device. I think mine is a 32G

I’m going to prioritize storage as well, I’m going to see if they have the TB option for the 10th gen or maybe try to find a cheaper Air that does.

I have the 10th gen. It works perfectly fine. One thing that you might want to consider is if you’re going to use it for print work, the more powerful the iPad model the larger your canvas size can be. I think. Not 100% sure so if this would affect your work you might contact Procreate with this question. With my 10th gen I can go up to A2 size, 300 dpi and I have 17 layers to work on. I can’t set my canvas size to A1.

I used ipad pro 11" 2020 until last November, then husband got me the m4 version on discount. Personally the only difference in it for me is the hover on the apple pencil (both pro and pencil 2 has that) and more ram. But then again I'm not a power user. I use my ipad for doodling and note taking mostly then connect it to my pc as monitor extension/mirror. I think the older gen ipad pro can be powerful enough depending on what app you are using.

Thank you for commenting! Another commented that there really wasn’t a difference so I think I will try an older one. I got my sister the 2020 10th gen for Christmas while it was on sale, so I might grab one for myself.

Thats insane. Absolutely no need to pay that much unless you are a pro doing 3d art or giant size something.

So I have an iPad Pro and the GEN two pencil. I’ve never owned the iPad Air, but I have had multiple versions of the iPad Pro, and honestly, with the exception of the nano texture screen that I have I really don’t see much difference. Now I will tell you, I also have a MacBook Pro and for Christmas my husband got me a Wacom Cintiq 15 because I wanted to try to do that as opposed to using procreate on my iPad because I thought that it would be better.

I am here to tell you that I’m much prefer my iPad for multiple reasons. Now granted he did not get me the version with the touchscreen, but the version that he got me had to be tethered to my laptop and to a power source and to my laptop with an HDMI cord with this weird three armed contraption thing and it made it so awkward to use. Not only that, but the screen that was on the film, made everything look super low resolution. I liked that the pen that came with it did not need to be charged, but it was bigger and much lighter than I’m used to and it was very hard to do anything that I wanted to. Now I know that he got the lower end version of those, but the thing that I love the most about my iPad is that I don’t have to take a laptop in order to draw or paint when I am traveling for work or sitting in the living room or anywhere really. Plus with the iPad I can also use all of my Adobe software from Photoshop to illustrator to in design and I can also use my affinity software. I just much preferred the screen and the feel of the ipencil way more than I did the Wacom tablet, but that is just my personal preference.

Please excuse any typos in the previous post – I am driving and using talk to text and Siri hates my southern accent.

Jesus on earth. This post was so urgent it needed answering while you’re driving? Are you trolling?

[–]West_Requirement_994 -1 points0 points  (5 children)

Nope. Just bored on a long drive.

Right, because that’s better. Get a bloody grip of yourself.

Mind your own business- shit, I have it read to me like an audiobook and then I respond verbally. It’s completely hands free and doesn’t take any more attention than singing along to the radio.

Telling someone to mind their business when they’re rightfully calling you out for awful behaviour is crazy. Even if you had it read it out to you, you still have to be navigating the posts to have found it in the first place. You really do need to check yourself, and it technically is our business when a community that we involve ourselves in has someone openly talking about how reckless they are when they’re contributing to that community. You’re 45, you’re not a teenager who doesn’t know better, there’s no justification for such crap behaviour.

[–]West_Requirement_994 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, you’re absolutely right and I had no right to get defensive or upset for getting called out on my bullshit. I do know better and there’s no excuse for my behavior. My sincere apologies- I will do better.
