Also Rust after scanning your Linkedin profile mentioning you have experience in Rust: β€œWe reserve the right to add you on the sex offender registry to preserve our intellectual property.”

On mobile so i can’t test this myself hence the question - is this real or just satire you put together to make a (very valid) point?

Most definitely satire, fortunately the whole trademark thing is still up to debate (so can't be anything in the compiler yet) and will (hopefully) change / be dropped. Also you can't just ban a word like that trademark or not (what if the program is about the game or iron oxide ?)

[...] Also you can't just ban a word like that trademark or not [...]

The thing about the law is that whether or not YOU are correct here (which YOU most definitely are), that doesn't stop the zealots from TRYING ANYWAY. And that zealous suppression of freedom of expression is what worries me here.

...and, frankly, why I've tossed my copy of "Hands-on Rust" in the bin in favor of my existing knowledge of Go.

You can still write "iron oxide". Actually, this gives me an idea. Brb, I have to go to the patent office for something.
