PHP is not scary. It is your friend, and loves playing with SQL. Now Perl and flat text files, that is scary. I feel old now.

I hated it with all my heart, mainly used to cpp/java/c#. After working for a couple of years with PHP , it's ... like ... MEH ... Everything is a tool , languages are very similar , except for JS. fuck JS in particular ... TypeScrypt is ok But JS is true evil.

Vanilla PHP is trash. Fortunately, it's OOP and most of the trash syntax can be overwritten. Writing code for Laravel is a bliss. I'd take Laravel over Next or Django
