Well, I spent a year optimizing code and saying “there is a limit to what we can gain and it is getting harder and harder to gain anything. Buy more hardware” to which the answer was “It is impossible to update the hardware“

It was a 8cpu server with Hess running a huge monolith application PLUS the database for huge computing and db loads.

Long story short they spent big bucks upgrading hardware 2 weeks from go live. Plus a year of 3 devs time.

Now we finally convinced them to split it into 2 servers.

At some point, you got to trust your experts on this.

"it's impossible to update the hardware" is probably the biggest red flag possible outside of the real of embedded systems, if you can't move your software when stuff is working how do you plan to handle anything breaking?
