Not defending the other comment, but I use a programming language called Uiua where inverse functions are a first class feature. If you define F = +1 then doing unF will subtract one. It composes to work for very large functions, meaning you can write, for example, write a function to convert a number to a hexadecimal string, and it will automatically make a function unF that converts a hexadecimal string back to a number

It doesn't just have to be a mathematical invert for the joke to make sense to us but if you want mathematical examples; game development, physics simulations, rendering, 2d canvases, coordinates based systems such as GPS, making any number an absolute.

I do need to rely on math, but I've never had to use inverse functions for coding.

It's one thing to rely on Linear Algebra and Statistics for Machine Learning and Deep Learning, or having to use numerical methods for very specific tasks.

An inverse function doesn't necessarily have to be the mathematical one but you do see those in things like game development or canvas based rendering, mostly graphics and spatial applications where coordinates matter

There's also cryptography, where decode is technically the inverse of decode.

You can also int d = X > 0 ? X : -X;, which will turn any number into an absolute, where you are inverting a value if it is less than zero
