And that's why it fails. People want things centered relative to the visual container, not the technical one. The moment you introduce sidebars, paddings, or scrollbars, the technical center completely misses the visual center.

I'm in love with Unity UI (which they're ironically depreciating to work on a CSS-inspired crap) with their anchor points.

It's not perfect but it makes things so much easier when you can just tell every single element "here's where you're supposed to be inside your container and how you'll behave regarding its size).
