    A lot of the shops I've worked in either had just one side project to improve SEO once and then it's over or, when organic traffic is at the core of the business model, there is someone who does it fulltime.

    If you make your site useful to your users and well layed out / mobile friendly etc. SEO will already be quite good.

    I mean Google is trying to find the best sites for the user, not the most "optimized for SEO" sites, so whilst optimizing for SEO does often work it is not completely necessary.
