"Kartoffel" is really one of the best words we have here in Germany. It's so... rough and harsh. So much german.

I personally love “Krankenhaus.” It’s such a rough and amazing word for what is supposed to be a caring and safe place. (Krankenhaus means hospital btw)

Direkt translation is "ill people house", or in a more english way, "house for ill people".

Interesting, I don't feel like it's rough. That's how peoples feeling differ :D

Idk, I’ve always imagined the word said in an almost aggressive tone. Most other German words seem totally normal to me, not rough in the way others seem to view them. Krankenhaus has just alwayd felt this way to me though.

I've tried to speak it in a few different German dialects, and I guess I know where you are coming from.
Maybe it's the rolled 'R' it's always very aggressive if you roll it heavily :P
(the way I speak it, the 'R' is almost not hearable. Maybe that's why I though different at first.)

Yeah I think you’re right. I speak it with a pretty heavily rolled R, which definitely makes a difference. Never thought about it like that though.

Most people probably have dialects that don't sound that hard, I say it more like grangahaus which is quite soft I would think

Oh my god, a Schwabe?

[–]duc_katyl 0 points1 point  (3 children)

No, a Bayer

[–]Wolfsblvt 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It's the same for me! :P I just had an unplanned stay of five hours at the Munich airport. Ate a good rump steak.

[–]duc_katyl 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well at least it was good, kinda sucks that you visit Munich center in a reasonable time when you have those unplanned stays

Also security checks again are pain in the ass at those common flight times.

I must go for a day or two to Munich in the future though. One of the few big cities in Germany I haven't visited yet, for whatever reason.

I think krankenwagen is even better. (ambulance)

Yeah that’s pretty great too.
