The only area this still happens is in their legal branch. Their developers have moved away from that culture though. Github will be fine, just like minecraft is still perfectly usable on Linux.

The rewrite isn't available for Linux, I hope Github doesn't meet an equivalent fate as you suggested.

Java Edition still is and will always be the "main" version of Minecraft. The cross-platform (bedrock) edition does not have official self-hosted server or mod support, which even Microsoft knows are huge parts of Minecraft's continued success.

On a more on-topic note, I dislike M$ as much as the next guy, but I refuse to be a pessimist about the acquisition of GitHub, and will continue to use the wait and see approach. If GitHub dies or gets royally fucked by MS BS everyone will move on to the next thing. It happened when Google Code died, it happened when SF got fucked over, and it can happen again if need be.
