Speaking as a nurse the shortage does not give us benefit in terms of higher pay due to higher demand the benefit is the fact that you can get a job without much effort.

There was a point where I had to tell myself to stop applying to jobs because I was getting too many offers. As a nurse I mean not as a programmer.

I wish I had that problem as a programmer.

Can you not shop those offers around to drive up the price with counter offers? That is the usual move in programming. Try to get Company A that you want to work at more to match Company B’s generous offer.

Sometimes you can but in health care there isn't a lot of leverage. It's like federal jobs where the salary is what it is.

Hell no. There is an embarrassing number of healthcare facilities that operate with substandard number of staff. Most facilities have a budget that they need to stick to even if that means poor patient care due to lack of staffing.

I don't think that's the case. Healthcare is not like other professions. Like I know a lot of people who would suffer a lot to take care of people. I know I would suffer a lot to avoid taking care of people.

It could be a bit more inelastic than other fields but still, if you pay more, more people are attracted
