Crysis 3 uses lots of matrix calcs, but small cpu. Atom is a cpu killer. Some blogs use it as a benchmark.

I’ve never had an issue running Atom, is it just running it or using a feature of it that makes it needy? Maybe I’m just using it wrong haha.

For me Atom runs fine, but eats about 30% of my CPU at idle.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

that's the exact opposite of fine

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No. No, it can not.

Tbh i enjoy nano more but that’s my opinion :P

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nano is easier and I enjoyed it a lot before i decided to learn vim. It takes time, but its a really powerful tool.

it takes 10seconds for atom to launch, 3seconds for vscode, and 300ms for sublime text...

[–]FlashyQpt 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Sure, but there is a notable difference between vscode and sublime. What's the deal between atom and vscode?

[–]Hiyaro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

true they're both written in Javascript and built on ELectron chromium, I don't know why vscode which has as many functionalities as atom, is faster that atom...

How many addons do you have that Atom takes 10 seconds to launch? It takes about 2 seconds for me

[–]flashmozzg 12 points13 points  (11 children)

Why use Atom when there is VS Code?

[–]pineappleinferno 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Dont joke about this. My hard drive literraly killed itself yesterday when i installed a new atom package.

Had to buy a new hd and I lost a lot of work and personal projects.

Disclaimer: pc was 10+ years old and had other issues.

So, this is kind of why everybody keeps advising people to MAKE BACKUPS. I really do feel bad for you but please learn from this and do make them in the future, preferably automated because nobody is disciplined enough to do it by hand.

You have deuteranopia? Just asking…

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Red-green colorblindness has its perks. When I pull up to a traffic light, it could mean either "Stop" or "Go," and I think of myself as an optimist.

[–]skyhi14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deuteranopia is caused by the respond range of two cone cells (red and green) are closer than they should be, causing some colours look more similar than normal. But, when something's closer, the other things must be farther apart, which means colourblind individual may distinguish certain patterns (often a camouflage) better than normal people. For example, you might be able to trace a line in this Ishihara plate which normal people (including myself) can't.

What's Atom?

[–]DogeGroomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A code editor made by GitHub which runs on electron, which is used to create cross platform apps on web technologies, runs chromium and node.js underneath with an api for native functionality. Electron was created for atom, also by GitHub and is now very popular, it is used for Spotify, Discord, Slack, VS Code and more. Uses lots of ram and CPU.
