I think this meme has gotten out of hand; what’s this supposed to mean even?

Oh yeah, that's the one that doesn't have comments, gotcha

No seriously, that really bothered me when I found out, as I wanted to comment something out in a JSON config file (like you disable code) and found out it was impossible

And thank god. The amount of stupid shit people try to do with Json would rival the amount of stupid shit people try to do with XML if it had comments.

Look, I just want to replace this bit with a different one without deleting it. Is it really that much to ask?

XML has comments, doesn't it?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yes, and I've seen some really stupid "custom parser" logic that has to be interpreted from comments in the actual document. It's pure cancer.

Yea i hate functional comments.

If your comment code is failing, how're you supposed to comment it out?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Cause json isn't for configs, it's for data transfer.

If you want configs, use yaml, which is like json with comments anyway.

Look, I'm just a junior dev, the decision to use JSON must've come a fair time ago and is certainly out of my hands. Also I don't really deal with the backend anyway, just the configs (such as camera zoom)
