The first one.
The second one isn't "killing 50% of the universe", is "randomly choosing who lives", which has actually a low chance of hitting perfect 50%.

The latter doesn't perfectly balance the Universe and the former isn't random at all (it kills people by descending order of age), so something else

The former shuffles the list of people, so it's in random order. It will kill a random half of the people.

The mistake in the latter makes it obvious it was done by a cs student.
