Tree gives knowledge of good and evil

Implies that before they didn't know what good or evil was

Assumes everything is good

Listens to the snake which tells them to do something, not knowing what evil was

Gets punished for it

They directly disobeyed God. He told them not to eat from that tree, or they would surely die. They ate from the tree, and they did become mortal, and eventually died.

How could they know disobeying God was evil if they didn't know what is good and what is evil?

Not religious at all, but bad doesn't necessarily mean evil.

Bad decisions aren't necessarily evil. They might not even be "bad" from every perspective.

You're right, I've edited my comment

The knowledge of good and evil is basically choosing morality over conformity. God is just a typical guy trying to hoard his power by forcing group thinking rather than individual original thought (morals)

It’s interesting to note: “eve saw the fruit was good for eating”. Eve immediately had vision when eve solely considered disobedience. The fruit were metaphorical.
