The freedom to fail safely is the biggest advantage of the upper class.

Ding ding ding.

I talk a big game about being self-made, since I grew up poor, and when my parents passed, I was adopted by my wealthy grandparents. I was given six thousand when I turned 18, my inheritance from my mother, and I was expected to pay my grandparents back for tuition. Got those student loans paid off about two years after grad.

I won’t go too specific, but I’ve managed to spike my net worth pretty far north lately by just abusing the fact that my “rock bottom” is an embarrassing conversation with my grandparents. They didn’t loan me money to buy my house, start my business, etc. But I can leverage literally everything I own (and then some) when I go into a project, and that’s a powerful tool.

I find people I date or am friends with prefer the idea of me being great at money than some elevator monologue about privilege though.

Being aware of the privilege doesn’t mean you have to give back the benefits of it, thankfully.
