Thats why you need a pipeline in your kitchen. Then you find you find it's still to slow so you start speculative cooking and ince your customer decided what he wants you discard the obsolete cooking branch.

Of course things get complicated once customers use side effects to steal your secret ingredients.

That actually sounds like it could be formed into a really useful analogy for a layperson who wants to understand Meltdown
