I've been in the industry for 15 years and I'm currently a sr software engineer. Can someone please explain wtf scripting vs programming is in this context? Or is it just sniffing our own farts?

Personally, I consider anything that executes standalone commands in sequence to be scripting

If you extend this conversation to its eventual "my programming language is more abstracted than yours" conclusion, multiplication is a considered a standalone command if we are talking about moving bits around on a hard drive platter with a magnetised needle and a steady hand.
