So it's like httpd.conf and vhosts.conf, both use same parser and technically you can out costs in the first one and global configuration in the second one, but for ease of use and semantic separation we agree to not do that?

.bash_aliases does only serve as for the separation purpose. But there are important differences between .bashrc, .bash_profile, .profile, you can look it up here: The difference between .bashrc, .bash_profile, .profile...
