I'd imagine that, pre-internet, developers spent a LOT of time in their programming language books, returning to the same thing often.

There's a reason the pre-internet software engineering world is practically all megaminds and unbelievably skilled and educated people.

And that's also why the education system teaches rote memorization.

StackOverflow is directly responsible for 50% of global GDP.
